Earth is constantly blasted with 170,000,000 GW of sunshine. Its so much energy that it keeps all the oceans liquid and drives the weather. The total electricity consumption of all of humanity is estimated at 27,000,000 GWh. More energy hits the Earth from the sun in 10 minutes than we consume all year long as a species (at least in electricity).

But DOE is right tho? Solar is not the largest source of energy. It’s the highest source of electricity, but not energy, which are two different things. Oil is still around 30% of primary energy.
