Hi. I accidentally put something hot on this wooden Ikea kitchen slab. Does anyone know how to repair this? I live in a furnished flat and don’t want the owner to charge exorbitantly for this damage.

It’s burned in. You can only sand it off and then coat the wood again. But if you don’t know how to do that, it’s probably cheaper if you just pay for the damage.
Feels like the introduction to a Galileo life hack lol
You could try to paint just the burned part with a brown colour that is slightly transparent.
fine wire wool and linseed oil- you might not get it perfect but you will get most of the carbon off. Rub along the grain lightly.
You can fix it with those instant noodles available at every Aldi
Put a vase on it
Thank you all, some useful tips here (and some funny ones 😄). I’m gonna give it a try since it’s damaged anyways. You guys are awesome!
Put it in a bag of rice.
Did you turned it on and off?
Try a Walnuss fruit and robb it about . Might wörks
Just burn the whole thing black, they wont notice.
Paint the whole table so that no one can notice it.
Draw a mickey mouse.. use the burnt area as an ear
Fake your death, move to a different country and assume a new identity. Solves most problems
Can you put a claim in under your haftpflichtversicherung?
As an aside always deal with an English agent so you can ask how to properly submit a claim (assuming your German is crap)
Have you tried rubbing it with toothpaste?
For accidents like this you should get a liability insurance. If it would be an expensive Table could be worth to have one.
Good luck with trying to fix it 👍
Sand it with very fine paper and rub the area with a walnut.
Cut the top off and flip it. If you don’t have a saw, just flip the whole thing.
Another option: Sell it on Ebay Kleinanzeigen, look for another or, as it’s from Ikea, the same one and replace it yourself.
It’s not reparierbar anymore. Even Bob der Baumeister is speechless…..
Sand paper and varnish!
Buy a new IKEA kitchen slab if all fails.
Do you respect wood?
If you sand the whole thing down it would work
You should really get insurance. I had it, and it saved my ass when I made this exact same mistake
Put more hot stuff on the rest of the table. If everything is charred there is no way to tell where the original damage was
Paint it black. Claim it’s always been that way. Refer to your move-in protocol that only refers to it as “table”. Easy!

If you’re at all good with tools, the replacement slab is under €150. That’s probably less than your insurance deductible.
If it was me, I’d start with the steel wool and walnut repair, then try the sanding and refinishing repair if that didn’t work. Third effort would be to contact the landlord, and offer to purchase and install the repair, subject to their satisfaction with the quality.
Any form if sanding will stand out like a 3rd testicle on a greyhound, they wooden bend top has an oil coated finish. You’ll have to sand the entire surface evenly then reseal it with oil. Sorry.
Perhaps ikea could replace that part only?
As a child, I was once at a friend’s place when their parents were not at home, and my friend spilled some orange juice over the wooden living room table, leaving a permament discoloring on the wood. Scared of getting scolded by his parents, he came up with a genious idea: he proceeded to spill the rest on the table, smearing it all over the wood. we then dried it up and cleaned it up with water, and guess what? The parents never noticed that anything happened to the table, as we had changed the color of the whole thing evenly.
TL;DR: Your kitchen slab is in need of a good, proper ironing.
Oh you are done for now. Visum probably already revoked, SEK standing ready. All you had to do was use an Untersetzer like they told you in the Einführung zum Deutschsein.
