BONHAM, Texas (KXII) – A possible tornado and confirmed straight-line winds hammered Bonham overnight leaving 3,000 people without power and many business and home owners on cleanup duty.
News 12 visited locations in Bonham to see how they were affected, including a home on South Village Drive, Wesley House Assisted Living, and the Integrity Urgent Care.
The urgent care center’s sign alongside North State Highway 121 flew to the back of the building following Sunday night’s severe storms. Medical Assistant Kathy Keeley says that was the very least of their problems.

Water came through the roof, soaking ceiling tiles and insulation. The center also experienced prolonged internet and power outages due to a snapped power line pole in front of the business. MasTec powerline engineers worked from Sunday morning to afternoon to restore electricity.
Keeley says patients were sent 30 minutes away to their Anna and Durant locations.
At Wesley House Assisted Living, Visiting Angels Caregiver Judy Mattox arrived at the facility to check on her patient, but to her surprise he was moved.
“His room had flooded,” said Mattox. “They had to move him to another room where it wasn’t flooding anymore.”
Mattox was shocked to find her former parking spot with a shade tree was covered by a fallen tree and storm debris.
“That can happen to anybody,” Mattox said.
Windows of homeowners Lisa and Richard Sewell’s 13 year-old house were blown out by strong winds. Richard says even the doors tried to give-way while his family took cover.
“We have a set of French doors and I was holding those doors closed,” said Richard. “The wind was blowing so hard.”
His wife says it’s been a constant cleanup of glass shards and their oldest tree snapped. It took five years for Richard to build their patio, but only 15 minutes for rubble to cover its beauty. He says the most important thing; everyone’s safe.
“Everything else, we know it will get fixed,” said Richard. “We’re all okay.”
Monday afternoon , city officials reported nearly 3,000 people without power. Encor worked around the clock to restore power and residents were encouraged to stay home and off the roads as recovery efforts continue.
