  1. >”After a prolonged battle with COPD and other underlying health issues, Sly passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, his closest friend, and his extended family,” his family said in a statement. “While we mourn his absence, we take solace in knowing that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for generations to come.”

  2. Like McJagger, this is one of those dude’s that somehow survived the insane drug fueled 70s music scene to live a long accomplished life. Few of us will pass as such. RIP to a titan.

  3. Wow. I just wanna thank you for letting me…be myself

  4. Legend. I don’t I use that word much. Brilliant man.

  5. Recently saw a documentary about him. There was a lot going on with him. He was very progressive and smart guy. Wanted to have a racially and sexually balanced band.

He was role model and inspiration for many. Prince borrowed a bunch from him.

  6. The Sly documentary on Hulu is great. Highly recommended

  7. I know he had it rough a few years ago. It’s sounds like his last years were a little easier on him. RIP to a legend.

  8. A true cornerstone of funk. Was Prince before there was a Prince.

  9. The documentary Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius) is great.

  10. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin). RIP to a legend

  11. RIP Sly Stone.

Thanks for the music that was the soundtrack for our lives.

  12. Dude what a tragic life for such an incredibly talented musician

  13. RIP Sly. You made music that brought people together.

It’s surprising to me that he lived to 82, though.

  14. Thank you for lettin me be myself… again

RIP Sly, you had an incredible life and your music will live forever

  15. I misread his name and was very confused for a minute

  16. I’m in tears. Sly and the family stone are literally my favorite band of all time. The reason why I picked up guitar, piano, drums and bass was because of Sly. Can’t believe this icon is gone. I was playing Riot today while leaving my father’s gravesite and now this news. Rest easy Sly. May your legacy continue.

  17. Sad. Sly made our world better! Yesterday, I saw that Pee Wee Herman paid homage to Sly in his special at the Roxy in 1981.

  18. One of the few artists who was loved by miles Davis, and in doing so, helped create jazz fusion.

  19. If you want me to stay. I’ll be around today to be available for you to see
