The big role that small countries are playing in supplying Ukraine

  1. The international stature of Germany is a collateral victim of the war in Ukraine. From a perception of being a solid, responsible, committed member of the European Community, the image of Europe’s largest economy is slipping towards that of a self-centered bourgeois country, more concerned for its economic profits and own well-being than about the plight of the victims of Russian aggression.

Of course, the same could be said about France; only that France’s image was already sort of tarnished. Nobody would have associated France with “responsible” even before the war, so it is not even so shocking that a presidential candidate with real chances of winning the elections has the audacity to call for closer ties to Russia!

From Germany we were expecting better, this is why the disillusion is more bitter. Maybe there is still time for coming round, we shall see.
