Aid vessel heading to Gaza rescues four Libyan migrants in Mediterranean Sea • FRANCE 24 English

the vessel of the freedom flotella coalition called the medlin has been making its way from sicily to gaza in an effort to defy the 18-year israeli blockade of the territory as of friday morning the vessel’s real-time tracker showed it between cree and libya but on thursday afternoon the madlin responded to an alert from the european union’s border control agency taking a detour it found dozens of migrants on a rapidly deflating boat the activists said that a vessel identifying itself as the egyptian coast guard approached and took people on board the ship was actually from libya spurring some migrants to jump off and they’re not here to rescue these people they are here to illegally deport them so four of them when they understood where was the ship from they jumped on the water and we brought them on board this is so absurd so absurd the search and rescue community that have been denouncing these types of violations for many many many years the freedom flotilla coalition protested the return of the other migrants to libya where human rights campaigners have said they face abuse and even torture it called on italy greece and malta to pick up the four sudin migrants now on board the medlin and bring them to safety in europe 12 activists are participating in the voyage including swedish climate campaigner greta tunberg irish actor liam cunningham and french member of parliament reema hassan they hope to deliver aid and raise awareness of the growing humanitarian crisis in gaza where almost the entire population of 2.3 million is acutely malnourished and many are on the brink of starvation according to the world food program an attempt last month by the freedom flotilla to reach gaza failed after another of the group’s vessels was attacked by drones the group blamed israel for the attack

After three months of a complete blockade, Israel began permitting limited humanitarian aid into Gaza last month, but relief workers continue to warn of an impending famine as conditions remain dire. In a glimmer of hope, a ship carrying life-saving supplies is currently en route to the besieged territory. On Thursday, that same vessel, the Madleen, diverted briefly from its mission to rescue four migrants who had leapt into the sea from another boat in a desperate attempt to avoid capture by Libyan authorities.   6. The rescued Lybians will be able to tell their grandchildren that they were part of the flotilla that delivered aid packages to feed 2 Million malnourished Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Hopefully they can get some selfies of both them with Greta handing out the food packages to all of the families and freedom fighters in Gaza.

  23. They decided they couldn't take the migrants on board because their yacht would be a bit crowded. They wanted to sail in style.
    In short they left 25 people to drown. They didn't help them anyway.
    I'm dumbfounded that you don't realise how fake and devoid of real charity they are.
    They are the worst hypocrites ever.
