So basically Trump only deployed the CA national guard because they’re Californians and he wanted to mistreat them?
If every time he sends troops, he treats them like that, he’s gonna have a military coup.

I spent a decent part of my career working with Army Readiness and I would lose my shit if a single toilet wasn’t working. Because the people doing this job of defending freedom…deserve THE BEST we can give them. And we work with lots of budget constraints, old buildings, etc. Those drill weekends are time away from children’s birthdays, family cookouts, or just relaxing to be ready for war! So, they are supposed to get the best I can give them.
So, this lack of planning degrades morale of people who literally give up their weekends from their families to prepare for war and defend democracy.

They’re being unused because their deployment is a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. They can’t be used for law enforcement purposes under this act. Even the executive branch taking command of them violates the 10th amendment, but deploying at the request of POTUS isn’t following an unlawful order. The commanding officer of the CA National Guard understands that deploying in a law enforcement capacity would mean following an unlawful order, which sets him up for a court martial and dishonorable discharge.

Newsom should make a big show of providing those national guard members with food and shelter. Undercut Trump and show that he is the one in control of the Guard, not Donnie. Also shows to the guard members that Donald doesn’t care about them but Gavin does. Secure loyalty.

They don’t even think about how disruptive it is to the lives of the people being deployed for this nonsense; They have to leave their family, their jobs, in some cases their personal businesses all at the whim of some wannabe dictator only to sit around and do nothing and be seen as the bad guys in this stupid play for attention.
Newsom would be smart to put them up in a hotel or something if he can.

As someone who has been ripped out of his civilian life and undertook the task of planning executing and restrograding a reserve mobilization in response to a crisis…. Color me shocked that Trump thought it was as simple as “get the national guard out there!!!”

$134 million for the LA Protest, $45 million for Trumps birthday parade, and another $100 million for a new ballroom inside the White House how interesting that waste and government efficiency are being so closely monitored.
Same thing happened when we got activated and sent to Florida for Hurricane relief during Trumps first term. We were stuck sitting at a cricket field waiting for orders and supplies. Then we got moved to a local Air National Guard Armory for a couple days. Then we went home because Florida didn’t know what to do with us. Waste of fucking time and resources.
One of the funniest things the protestors could do is to bring food and water to the troops, and just try to befriend them.
