This twisting door lock is getting difficult to turn. Anyone who knows how to fix it?

  1. Pull the handle, as you would when closing the door, at the same time as you are twisting the lock. Door or lock might need adjusting. Oiling the moving parts should also help.

  2. This might be silly, but did you turn the upper smaller nob first ? You first need to turn that one, then the lower handle

  3. Is it difficult to turn also when the door is open? If not, check the alignment of the locking parts, and also the counter parts for trash.

If it is difficult to turn also when it is open, try oiling it, and check that there isn’t any damage or things stuck in the mechanism.

  4. WD40 that shit. I WD40’d one of my doors it’s so smooth it can’t stay open

  5. Can you take pictures of the door outer frame when the door is open? Does this door have locks bottom and top or just the middle? It could just be entirely in need of grease.

  6. The upper knob needs to be horizontal, no? For the handle to turn? Or is it vertical?

  7. Open the door, find latches, use sprayable oil and use for those. Especially the upper one. Clean the mess. Turn the handle several times and it works fine. There are many levers and joints inside the door and the upper latch is the key to lubricate them all.

  8. The latch mechanism breaks easily on these. If theres resistance at first while turning the handle that then suddenly loosens or cracks, you need a new mechanism. If you are renting, you’ll get it fixed for free.

  9. The upper knob is a lock, it should have affect on the handle. The handle controls whole mechanism on the side of the door, usually three points where metal thingies moves in and out. And on the top there is also connection to mechanism rolling metal spike that somehow locks the door at the position. So lots going on and if greasing/oiling does not help you may need to disassemble the whole thing to find the issue. For really old ones you may need to do some cleaning too.

  10. I had samr issue so i unscrewed the mechanism from the wood door and there was a metal bit that bit into another metal bit for sone reason but when i turned the thing upside down it functioned better.
