  1. Much as I hate the Tories (and their history with the NHS and education) and have a rellie affected by this – how can ANY govt respond quickly to an outbreak like Covid? Hospital facilities and particularly trained staff (for specialist testing and treatment) do not grow on trees even if one commits the money – shit happens is my response as NZ is now discovering. I am sure there were historic gaps in staffing but YOU voted the fuckers in – or did not get them out despite decades of PROOF they are shit for the average working person. And Brexit will have done NO good for hospital staffing – so british tory voting public I HOPE you suffered !!!!

  2. Maybe if they hadn’t been deliberately underfunding the NHS for a decade in order to privatise it and sell it off, the NHS might have been able to cope better.

This “everything bad is because of covid” narrative needs to die. Everything is shit because of austerity, covid just added a bit on top.

  3. um excuse me?!?!? you know boris is magically conjuring up 50,000 nurses and pumping 350 million pounds a week into the NHS right?

    oh… hang on…

  4. Does it count as failure if you didn’t try?

Oh, yes. Moral failure…I think that’s in their manifesto isn’t it?

  5. It’s not the impact of covid, covid did very little. It’s the impact of the government’s response to covid. Very different things.

  6. My mum was diagnosed with Stage 2-3 cancer months and months after initially seeing the GP about it. They kept insisting she didn’t need any further tests because she had a blood test a year ago… If they caught it when she went originally to the GP, they catch it before the cancer started spreading and she’d have a much better chance. Do not underestimate the important of good diagnosis, it is essential!

  7. A reminder that the state of the nhs is a political choice. Tories would rather people who rely on it (the vast majority of us) die than use our taxes to fund and run it properly.
