Eh I have countless issues with Sunak’s policies but this isn’t one of them.
As much as I’m not sure about if private schools have a place in modern society and as much as such a hefty donation would be more valued or even better used in other areas right now, since he was a beneficiary of a scholarship during his time it makes sense to want to pay it forward to other scholarship recipients so to speak.
I’m a bit ashamed that it took me so many years to finally realise that the true purpose of the really top public schools is not to produce great thinkers but to ensure that the next generation share exactly the same set of (utterly contemptible) values and mindset. All those huge fees per term are to ensure that the offspring of wealth doesn’t grow up with any dangerous ideas about a fairer society and giving away some of the workers’ cottages on the country estate. The George Orwells who emerge from Eton despising the place and everything it represents are a vanishingly rare anomaly.
Pure distraction. God this country is dense. I’m sorry I know this is rude but people are really thick and fall for this shit all the time.
