  1. There are many worse institutions in Slovenia than University. UL is just fine as far as I am concerned

  2. Varies strongly from faculty to faculty honestly.

  3. Compared to what?

Worldwide, I would say yes. Compared to the developed western countries? Mediocre.

  4. Well, it’s in Ljubljana, otherwise it’s fine.

  5. too much communist indoctrination at least in FF and FDV (I speak from experience)
some professors are excellent, most are average or below average

  6. JFYI this is only their HQ and not a university itself.

Different colledges under the University of Ljubljana are spread all over Ljubljana and has their own buildings.

  7. Overall its top 500 in the world. Quality depends on the faculty. Some are top 250, most top 500… some not even that…

  8. Depends on competition and faculty. I can only speak for what I know from faculties attended by me, my friends or my family

On a global scale, it’s obviously nowhere near the level of prestige that Ivy League or Russell Group colleges have, or does it reach the same success. But for a country of our scale, I think it’s definitely good. It consistently ranks as one of the best of the former Iron Curtain universities, competing with ones like Lomonosov (which I think really fell over the past 10 years, used to be one of the best in the world), Charles, Jagiellonian. The Faculty of Law consistently ranks highly in various European and UN moot court competitions, the Medical Faculty has produced some of the best doctors in their fields like Vinko Dolenc who find work across Western and Central Europe as well as the Gulf States. Faculty of Biology is also very successful and, like the IT Faculty, has cooperated with many other international faculties, both from Europe and the Middle East, in various start-ups. One of my brothers’ friends was part of a successful startup in Tel-Aviv in what I think was some sort of genetic mapping software, while one of my friends was also part of a good startup in California on seafood substitute synthesis
