Why for the love of Jebus did NBI start rolling out broadband to all the town centres and every bleeding area that ALREADY has broadband.
I feel like I’m takimg crazy pills here. Eir mad to sell me a 3Mb connection package and no NBI survey until 2026.
“Jeez thanks, I’ll just fire up my 56k modem and dial into my zoom meeting”

That’s a fair amount in progress
You get given a window for when you can expect to be connected by.
I’ve been monitoring ours for over a year and it’s been receding like the carrot dangling in front of the donkey.
I’m involved in the distribution of cable for the NBI,the cable comes in 3 or 4 times a week from France,we are flat out with it.they must be flying along at it.
Anyone here already been connected by NBI.
how is that done, cable or wireless from the road.
Also whats’ the quality like and the cost.
Pending survey December 2025 – January 2026, fuckin mighty. That’s 11 km from a medium- large town
weird, my old place got fibre under the nbp a couple years ago but it’s marked as survey pending on this image and as unavailable on the website
Sad state of affairs when Ardmore is shown on the map and not youghal
We had them out laying fibre into our estate last month, and our status has updated from “Build in progress” to “Available for pre-order” – which I think means the network is down but not fully connected on their end yet. Have a pre-order put in for connection.
Can anyone who has gotten NBI recently tell me how long it took between the Pre-order phase and the network go-live?
NBI cannot start serving houses until they have gone beyond the ‘passed’ houses of the OpenEir Fibre network. So essentially they have to run fibre passed the last OpenEir fibre distribution point and only then can they begin dropping off fibres to serve customers. Also take into account having to uncover buried boxes, clear blockages in ducts, have poles replaced in rural areas and deal with access issues with poles in gardens.
“Your premises is not included in the national rollout
Internet service providers have indicated they offer speeds of 30mbps or greater in your locality.”
Except I only get 16mbps… They offer speeds up to 50 but that’s not what we get.
Recently got connected by the NBI, it was a long time coming but it was worth it. 900Mbps all day.
My last update said I might be connected by the end of 2025… oh yay
Shoutout to my other purple homies whose connections can’t handle you WFH if one of the in-laws you’re forced to live with due to the housing crisis is FaceTiming a grandkid for the third time that week. No, I’m not bitter.
We were supposed to be connected between Dec 20-Jan 21 but we keep getting pushed back. It’s now March-May and I’m once again suspicious as to whether we’ll be pushed back yet again as there’s no work going on in the area.
The FAQ says they will complete the roll out in 7 years, but will continue to build out for the next 25 to 35 years. Fuck sake. Well be on 8G by then, and they’ll be still. On about their 30mbps.
My estimated date is 2025/26.
I got Starlink in the meantime, couldn’t be relying on the NBP to actually deliver.
I don’t like the word “estimated” nothing definite about it
Does anyone know if this guarantees that fibre will be installed to the home if you can already get 30mb mobile speeds? I’m getting 35mb on mobile 4G plan and wondering if they say that’s good enough and not bother, or if I should press them for a fibre connection to the house.
