Labour calls for Russian ambassador to be expelled over alleged war crimes | Foreign policy

  1. At this point in time, I see little reason why we should maintain diplomatic ties with Russia, or why they should be allowed to maintain an embassy here at all.

I’m sure that if necessary they could “rent a room” in either the Chinese or Indian embassy until such time they are deemed fit to have an embassy here, but quite honestly I can’t see what can be gained by them remaining at the moment.

  2. This seems like it wouldn’t really achieve much besides making people feel slightly better, and making it more difficult for Russian immigrants who are settled here to renew passports etc.

My concern is that Russia might reciprocate and shut the British embassy in Moscow, leaving the few thousand UK citizens who still live there (may have family there, no money to relocate, children / partners who only have Russian citizenship etc) in a very precarious situation.

I think Ireland is also talking about shutting their embassy in Russia, but I believe their citizens can go to the embassy / consulate of any EU country for assistance.

  3. Boris is mates with all of them. I mean our PM is speaking Russian on TV and he tells us he has no affiliation with the Kremlin. Do me a favour.
