  1. Nice propaganda piece. There’s always people in every office who can and will do this kind of thing at the first opportunity. There’s also hundreds of people who work damn hard and do an honest job day in and day out wherever they are asked to work.

The difference is nearly always management failing to do *their* jobs. As ever..

  2. This sort of thing probably isn’t uncommon (in general, it probably is in the police). I’ve known several people get sacked from office jobs for fiddling tinesheets, and most didn’t go to the effort this guy did.

  3. There’s a certain irony in using “zzzzzzzzzzz” to prevent the computer from sleeping.

  4. Amazes me how many managers seem to have no way of knowing that the people they manage are productive without actually standing over them watching them.

  5. Should have just used a drinking bird and he could have tripled his productivity

  6. Shouldn’t whatever program that detects the keyboard being used be able to detect whether it’s just a long press of the same key too? Sounds like they need better software.

  7. I mean if they’re getting all the tasks done that they’ve been set, who cares?

If someone is good at their job and takes 1 hour a day to complete all their tasks, yet someone else takes 9 hours, what does it matter to the boss as long as it gets done?

If you’re 9 times better at your job than someone else you should be paid 9 times more. This is the real world so we know that won’t happen. So instead, you have to fake working to earn the time off you deserve for being better than someone else.

  8. This isn’t a work from home thing, it’s a lazy employee and no management oversight thing.

They’d also be doing f’all if they were in an office.

  9. I reckon this is what air traffic controllers do when they are wfh.

  10. If someone is able to fake doing their job and it go unnoticed, that’s a failure of management.

  11. “Police are bad because look at this bad officer” says the article describing the activity of at least one person in every WFH group.

Don’t get me wrong, officers who do are lazy should find new jobs. It certainly isn’t the pay that’s keeping them but people wonder why nobody trusts the police. Articles like this are a contributing factor.

  12. 100 hours is two weeks and a half *and no one noticed anything*? Forget the cop, where are his superiors? Your guy works two weeks and a half but actually isn’t working and you didn’t notice?

I could get away with it for maybe a day at most, during slower days. In two weeks, I’d miss two or three deadlines and my boss would have my ass long before I’d clock in 100 work hours not working.

  13. Ah yes because sitting in an office immediately makes you 100% efficient and you never just sit there staring at your screen for hours wiggling your mouse to keep your screen alive …

  14. I think police specifically should be held accountable for dishonest behavior. This should be a written warning, but this guy lied to get out of it. He’s not honest, so shouldn’t be upholding the law for the public.

  15. People out here using mouse jigglers and here I am still doing it manually by hand

  16. I see the Reddit jobsworths are out in full force. My question is, shouldn’t you all be working right now instead of moaning on Reddit?

  17. Companies that monitor people like this are weird, monitor your employees on delivery of work against schedule, not how long they are sat staring at a screen.

  18. Stupid games win stupid prizes and the guy got caught out. More attentive management would probably have noticed much quicker.

  19. > He argued that he was suffering from a lack of support and motivation and claimed he held down the Z button to help his mental health.

Hahaha this is the best bit

  20. Daily fail clearly forgetting the Metro is (or at least was) read by office workers who aren’t about to say no to WFH options no matter how many hit pieces are written against it

  21. Management didn’t give him a single piece of time sensitive work in over 2 working weeks?

  22. ooh ooh the weekly ‘WFH is worse than shooting your nan and kicking the baby’ story. Nice to know the DM is branching out using some of its other mouthpieces to spread this shit. I’m guessing the hedgefunds property prices aren’t recovering.
