NextEra CEO says renewables needed as ‘bridge to expanding gas power’. It will take at least seven years to get new gas-fired plants online. “We need a bridge to get ourselves to 2032 when that gas shows up. If we take renewables off the table, we are going to have a real power shortage.”

  1. Jesus Christ.

Remember 15-20 years ago when fracked natural gas was pitched as a bridge to full renewables?

    I really hate this timeline.

  2. I’m going to try to be generous, and assume he is knowingly saying this horseshit in order to keep his job as a CEO in Trump’s America.

“I absolutely love gas Mister President, love it bigly; I swear I’m just putting in a few dozen little gigawatts of solar here and there just to tide us over for a couple of years. Pinkie promise.”

  3. So until 2028 when we get to potentially stop pretending that renewables are a bad thing to concentrate on because 1 person doesn’t like them?

  4. Nextera energy resources is the largest U.S. wind and solar developer. So he’s also defending his stock. But in my experience Ketchum has been right about everything.

  5. So you’re admitting oil and gas is worse than renewable energy sources.

  6. Except now do it without the gas. Who the fuck builds gas these days?

  7. In order to convince people you have to speak their language

You’re going to see a shift in tone from the Green Energy Industry over the next few weeks

  8. “Because the sun doesn’t shine all day, it goes down at night,” Agen said of why renewables are not a part of the Trump agenda.

When the rest of the world is running mostly on renewable in the future, the super advanced USA will be blowing the tops off mountains, destroying habitats and ecosystems, loading the coal onto trains to travel across the county, burning said coal again polluting the air all because an aged and deluded president and a congress that can’t get enough fossil fuel slush funds can’t bear to effect change.

Not saying that renewables are the end all be all and there are certainly limitations, but when the rest of the western world and CHINA, are working at overcoming these obstacles, the US will be stuck in the stone age.

Thank you leaders and especially Trump whose main issue with renewables is that wind turbines were built offshore from his money losing golf clubs in Scotland. Glad he governs a whole country based on his personal vengeances.

  9. How about a bridge to no gas at all? What kind of lunacy is this guy spouting?

  10. There’s a place for oil. Can’t make plastic or fiberglass without it but shipping and mass transportation should seek better options. Future can’t be one wind vs a hybrid of all options including how to commercialize pollution thereby seeking to itemize it such as methane and co2 because oil drilling isn’t going away but reducing need and solving its affect might be a wiser fight then all or nothing. From compromise comes success.
