Chicago Stars announced on June 11 the signing of German international Kathrin Hendrich on a two-year contract with a mutual option for 2027. The defender joined the club on a free transfer.
The versatile defender spent five years with Wolfsburg. However, the Wolves have been suffering a massive overhaul and with her, twelve players have left the club already. After the 33-year-old announced her departure in May, the question about where she was going to continue her career was a mystery.

“I’m really excited to join the Stars this summer,” said the defender. “I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, and I‘m looking forward to the new challenge and to play in front of our fans.”
It is expected that the defender will join Chicago this summer, once her competition in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 finishes. Her arrival can’t come soon enough, given the fact that the Stars are at the bottom of the table and are the team with the most goals against.
“Kathrin’s proven defensive talent in the Bundesliga and on the international stage will bolster our back line, while her immense experience can serve as an additional resource for our younger players,” said Chicago’s general manager Richard Feuz.
Her experience will help Alyssa Naeher and Chicago Stars mightily the rest of the season.
Will this move be enough to get them back in the playoff picture?
Is the addition of Kathrin Hendrich what the Stars needed?
