Ok, **HOW** are they going to seize Odesa?
They don’t have a fleet right now to do it.
The troops in tranistria are too small in number to try it
And the nearest Russian forces are 500kms away, with 2 major cities and 2-3 rivers in between them.
First they stated the Donbass was going to be a buffer zone from NATO. Then, they stated they would need a buffer zone to the buffer zone, ideally with a nice view to the black sea. This will also require (obviously) a demilitarised (buffer) zone for the fishing boats (and a couple other stuff they may have floating around. And come to think of it, if they can also get a friendly country between NATO and the buffer zone acting as a 3 day observation zone…

Odesa has always been a Russian goal, but I have to say I think they have no capacity to achieve this goal. However, they will bluster it for maximum propaganda. And so Ukraine has to maintain a capacity to defend against the goal, which siphons resources. And I suspect that siphoning is the real Russian objective. They hope to win overall via a “divide and conquer” approach on the front line.
And the West still doesn’t take it seriously.
I support whatever Zelensky says, regarding the defense of Ukraine. I don’t doubt that seizing Odesa would be a huge win for Putin and that Putin has plans to do so, but is that even possible?
Russia can’t retake Kherson. Russia can’t cross the Dniepro River. Russian invasion forces would have to attack with landings from the Black Sea, which they have limited access to.
That said, I hope that saner people talk the current US president into supporting Ukraine with whatever weapons it needs to win, that is, to push Russian forces back to the 1991 borders and to return the kidnapped Ukrainian children.
NATO should flood Ukraine with peace keeping forces and tell Putin that so much as a single bullet fired in their direction will be taken as a declaration of war and trigger full retaliation.
They will invade Odesa on a bridge built of sunken Russian warships.
Easy solution: send western soldiers to Odesa.
Finland, Germany and Poland need to open up three more fronts NOW! PUTIN is never going to stop! Do not let this continue!
