  1. Just a heads up for those who don’t actually read the article – The Beaverton is the Canadian version of The Onion.

  2. I got excited when I read the headline… then saw the source…

Ah well… it was fun to think about for a half second.

  3. We are zero km from France. Because of our sacrifices during WW1 at Vimy Ridge, France ceded the land that the Canadian Vimy Ridge memorial stands on to Canada, and it is currently part of Parks Canada. That being said, and as much as I would be pro joining the EU, it likely wouldn’t work as we are part of North America. I would be happy to just strengthen our relationships with our European brethren, as I’ve always found myself and my country more in line with European values. And I would welcome any from the EU who wish to come visit canada. And I will be coming back to Europe in the summer of 2026 for a river tour starting in Amsterdam and ending in Budapest. Very much excited.

  4. I’ve heard far worse things, especially these last six months.

  5. Are we really going to allow non European nations with indigenous cultures to join the EU?

  6. Uhh we share a land border with Denmark .. so there’s that

  7. What do you all think is the percentage of Americans who have ever even heard of St. Pierre and Miquelon?

I’m an American and I am confident that the percentage is single digits low.

  8. Canada also has a land border with Denmark (Hans Island)

  9. Bordering an European country ≠ being located in Europe

By the same logic Brazil and Suriname could also apply, since French Guiana is bordering them.
