A woman has won a £2,000 redundancy payment after her employer cut jobs due to sanctions imposed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a tribunal ruled. Ellina Spallo worked for Alfaparcel Limited from June 2022, which the employment tribunal in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, heard was a small business exporting to Russia.
But due to sanctions imposed after the conflict in Ukraine, Alfaparcel’s business “dramatically reduced” and all employees were made redundant, it was heard. Ms Spallo left her job in August 2024, aged 48, but she did not receive a redundancy payment.
She has been awarded £2,027.49 as she was made redundant after two years’ work. Being over 41 meant she was entitled to 1.5 weeks’ pay per year, totalling three weeks’ pay at £675.83 per week, the tribunal said.
