"The protest coincides with a Dáil motion led by Opposition parties, calling for emergency action to address the deepening housing and homeless crisis. These actions include increased investment in public housing, stronger protections for renters, and an immediate reintroduction of the ban on no-fault evictions and a freeze on all rent increases.

This is a crisis affecting every generation. Workers are being priced out of their communities. Young people are being forced to emigrate. Public services are struggling to fill vacancies due to housing shortages. This is not sustainable, and it is not acceptable.

Join us on Molesworth Street at 6pm to demand secure, affordable housing for all.

The protest will feature speakers and performances from artists including Lisa O’Neill, Martin Leahy, Meryl Streek, and others."

  1. >freeze on all rent increases.

Nothing will help increase supply than hampering the ability to make money from it. Companies should only be able to build houses out of love for their fellow man.

Even if the evidence against rent controls is overwhelming, it doesn’t apply to Ireland because reasons.

  2. The “Geh dem ow” brigade have done so much damage to the idea of protesting in ireland. The french protest at the drop of a hat.

  3. I’d urge people not to take the negative comments under these posts too seriously.

People are very quick to scoff at anybody who is genuinely trying to make a difference in this country. More so, when they’re behind a computer screen or on their phone.

Will this protest build the desperately needed homes? No. Will it send a message to the government parties that people are at their wits end with the devastation that their policies have caused? Yes, but only if we turn up.

This government is held together by independents. Some of those independents have already broken rank on various things and we’re barely six months into the term.

So much needs to be done, but it won’t be done by complaining on Reddit. Please do your best to get out and make your voices heard. Pile pressure on top of pressure until we see the change that we need.

Edit: As proven by the instant downvotes. This sub is infested with whingers that would rather sit at home in their jocks, eating tubs of ice cream and complaining about the country on Reddit than go out and do anything about it. Sad cases.
