Hey. I volunteer at the Trussell Trust foodbank at the Highbury Roundhouse. The Council is taking the foodbank to court, claiming we're trespassing on its land because we won't sign a notice agreeing to leave at very short notice. We'd all appreciate your support as we try to fight this https://chng.it/bbyH2Ch67Y

Well are ye entitled to be on the lad to begin with?
Seems like there’s more to this story?
Signed. Have you got in contact with the local MP? Emily Thornbury isn’t it? It would be a fairly major story if her name was dragged into it.
Has there not been any communications between council and food bank about this? I find it odd that their first move would be legal action. Councils would generally try to mediate the matter first. Also, surely the council would be supportive of the food bank?
Is there more to this story?
So the council is asking you to sign a lease for land it owns, with a condition that if you are asked you have to move, but you probably won’t have to? The problem isnt really being described very well.
Jesus Christ these comments. A food bank, providing the basics so people don’t literally starve is being threatened with legal action and the “there’s more to this story, councils never do anything wrong, it must be the fault of you people trying to save people from starvation due to brutal spending and state cuts” are out in force.
What happened to “teach a man to fish instead of giving him a fish”?

This is why you keep handing out fish instead of teaching a man to fish!
Contact the Islington Tribune. They will make Islington Council look like shite.
Foodbanks provide such a vital service, I hope your fight against the council is successful
Have you tried making a parliamentary petition? If it gets over so many signatures the government has to respond and it might get a bit more media attention. The change.org petitions are easier to ignore.
>The Council is now taking us to court, accusing the Foodbank of trespassing as we’ve refused to sign the lease.
What is the legal nature of the food bank’s occupation of the site? Do you have an existing lease or license to occupy?
Honestly I’d contact your MP. There’s no way Corbyn of all people sides with the council
Squatting and holding up development
Defo NOT signing, what’s the full story.
Unbelievable. Trussell Trust do a lot of good work for our community.
Could you elaborate please, I want to riot on your behalf but I’m confused why they’re doing this now or what the situation was before?
What’s stopping you from moving? I suppose finding a new place will be harder now that everyone knows you’re gonna kick off if they need to get you out.
