  1. Russian combat losses during the [war in Ukraine](https://www.google.com/search?q=inews+russia+ukraine+war&rlz=1C1GCEA_en&oq=inews+russia+ukraine+war&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBggAEEUYOzIGCAAQRRg7Mg8IARAAGA0YgwEYsQMYgAQyCQgCEAAYDRiABDIJCAMQABgNGIAEMggIBBAAGBYYHjIICAUQABgWGB4yBggGEEUYPDIGCAcQRRg80gEIMjc2N2owajSoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) passed one million on Thursday, according to the latest estimate from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.

“We have neutralised as many enemies as 66 conventional wars in Afghanistan,” the military stated in a social media post announcing the data, referring to the Soviet-Afghan war that lasted a decade and contributed to the collapse of the USSR.

The figure includes 250,000 deaths, with the remaining casualties wounded.

Volodymyr Zelensky marked the milestone with an attack on the Russian regime.

“Today, in year four of Russia’s full-scale war, our military has recorded over one million Russian casualties – killed and wounded,” he said. “That’s the price Putin is willing to pay for his sick geopolitical fantasies. And still, he refuses to end this war.”

After more than three years of full-scale war since the invasion in February 2022, Russia currently controls about 20 per cent of Ukraine, and continues to make grinding progress at a staggering cost.

While Ukraine’s data cannot be independently verified – and is acknowledged to be an estimate – conflict researchers suggest the figures are likely to be accurate.

  2. Just for reference, the total US military casualties in all of its post-WW2 conflicts is less than half of Russia’s losses in Ukraine.

  3. What about the good guys? How many suffered for that pos useless war?

  4. Combine that with the brain drain it caused early on and I wonder if it has cost 1%of the population… 2% of the male population? I think doing fag packet maths that would be just under 1.5m.

Looking at Britain in WW2 the casualties seems to be [During that six-year span, more than 750,000 British military personnel from the United Kingdom were killed, wounded, or reported missing. The casualties were divided somewhat evenly across the three categories: 264,443 killed, 277,077 wounded, and 213,919 missing or taken prisoner.](https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/62623/#:~:text=During%20that%20six%2Dyear%20span,213%2C919%20missing%20or%20taken%20prisoner.) that is from a population of 38m at the close of WW2. Russia seems to have comparable absolute numbers of dead and more wounded against one country rather than a world war.
