This is even less likely to work than trying to do it from the Israeli side
https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2024/02/27/why-egypt-refuses-to-open-its-border-to-palestinians.html
Egypt has a walled buffer zone of 21 square kilometers. Additionally, prior to Israel’s seizing of the Rafah border, most if not all closures of the crossing were unilateral measures by Egypt without any Israeli input.
During the war, Gazans would pay tens of thousands of dollars to leave through Rafah, this is again BEFORE Israel seized it.
The hard truth is that Egypt is just as radical as Israel if not moreso in their stance on keeping Gazans out of their country. But unlike Israel, Egypt has faced close to zero international pressure to open Rafah for decades.
I’ll put money Egypt isn’t letting this happen.
I’ve driven to the Sinai and that place is riddled with police and military checkpoints. I had to ask the Egyptian intelligence for a permit to cross the Suez into the Sinai with my vehicle headed towards Taba. I doubt the roads headed to Rafah are even open to foreigners.
None of these measures will actually work.
Outside of diplomacy or Israel stopping itself only one solution exists.
Iran gains nukes. And a viable air defense.
And before you completely lose it, think for a second.
1. Israel has F15s and F35s providing air superiority and power projection unlike most other countries.
2. Israel has US intelligence guiding that power projection.
3. Israel has it’s airspace defended by not just itself but also the US and UK.
4. #Israel has nukes.
They have the best offense and best defense.
Why would they listen to anyone? Would you? They have no reason to listen to a bunch of people armed with food or clothes.
What you gonna do? Hope for Israeli humanity and morality? Two years of warcrimes and now genocide basically smacked that down. 7 decades of oppression has enough evidence that hoping for humanity from the IOF is a fools errand. They have a UN veto in their pocket. Any possible sanctions on them will result in counter action from the US.
If you want to argue against the above points, then you better have a solid ass case to reconcile what’s in the para above.
How many more UN resolutions can they violate before people understand that the stage is now set for might makes right. The rules based order is dead, the US sold it for Israel. Sold it cheap.
France, UK, Canada (lul we sanctioned two people and 4 settlers lmao) are not courageous enough. There are no heroes to fight this monster.
Only a viable threat to land will make them think twice. You need another monster. Why do you think they are on Iran’s case.
But hey I’m open to dissenting opinion. Make your case.
Edit: Its kind of amusing watching this get upvoted and downvoted. It’s less amusing knowing that just now Israel bombed Iran.
So much for wanting peace. Sigh. What a sad world.
Sure will be awkward for these folk when they wake up to the reality that Egypt controls its border with Gaza, has also blockaded Gaza since Hamas took power, and (if you have been paying any attention at all) also wants Hamas removed from power
Arab countries have had a long standing policy to not take in large amounts of Palestinian refugees for three reasons:
1. They know that the moment they accept refugees, Israel wins because the displaced people aren’t going back, and they don’t want to give Israel the win (for now at least)
2. By taking in large amounts of Palestinian refugees that means that they basically brought upon themselves a political and humanitarian quagmire
3. The countries that did take in lot of Palestinian refugees in the past ended up deeply regretting it. Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan tried to overthrow the government. Palestinians in Kuwait supported Saddam’s invasion of the country. Palestinians in Syria actively participated in their civil wars and made their situations worse.
Don’t mistake the hatred of Israel by these countries for support of Palestine. They hate both, but they just happen to hate Israel more for a variety of reasons. This is a pipe dream, they’re more likely to negotiate a lasting deal with Netanyahu than have Egypt let them cross the border. I would be shocked if Egypt let them in.
There’s a caravan that was moving towards Egypt through North Africa that started in Algeria and Tunisia to join the march. It was joined by people along the way, and Egyptian authorities put out statements tacitly implying they won’t allow it through. Coordinators and participants who flew in are being deported right now and the authorities in Eastern Libya prevented the caravan from progressing pending some response from the Egyptian government.
Egypt’s government is just a loyal little guard dog for Israel. It’s actually blocking the border at Rafah. It was a guarantor of the last ceasefire agreement, and they decided to listen to the Israelis and prevent aid from going in instead of doing their part in guaranteeing its execution. Egypt is 100% complicit in this genocide.
