californians grieving Beach Boyy’s co-founder Brian Wilson lay flowers on his star on the Walk of Fame others made the pilgrimage to Wilson’s childhood home upon hearing the news and even to his most recent recording he’s always been a huge fan it’s just crazy how one person from a modest upbringing in Hawthorne California became America’s band an artist who changed the face of pop music with his layered harmonies and sincere songwriting brian Wilson’s death prompted the outpouring of messages from musicians around the world metallica frontman James Hetfield remembered him as one of the greats yeah well he again one of the most amazing songwriters on the planet not not just American but um you know all the stuff and trials and tribulations that he went through for me that’s a huge inspiration i think God only knows that song is like one of the best written songs ever and thank you Brian for that may you rest in peace we’re going to miss you in her tribute singer songwriter Carol King reminisced about musical synchronicities between the two artists brian Wilson was my friend and my brother in songwriting we shared a similar sensibility as evidenced by his four over five chord and good vibrations and mine under I’m into something good we once discussed it who used it first and in the end we decided it didn’t matter the world will miss Brian but we are so lucky to have his music from the cult classic Beach Boys album Pet Sounds to the visionary 2004 release Smile one thing is sure thank you brian Wilson fans around the world will continue to play and replay his iconic melodies for decades to come

Beach Boys cofounder Brian Wilson, who created some of rock’s most enduring songs such as “Good Vibrations” and “God Only Knows” in a career that was marked by a decades-long battle between his musical genius, drug abuse and mental health issues, has died at the age of 82. Wilson’s family announced his death in a statement on the singer’s website.

  2. The Beatles sometimes got more cred (yes, IN the United States) but I was a huge fan of the Beach Boys because I found the lyrics and the music quite calming.
