It used to be the case that the installation of metropolitan archbishops (the presentation of the Pallium) was done in Rome. Pope Francis changed that by having the Pallia sent to the local archdiocese with the formal installation handled by the Vatican nuncio in the country in question – a clear example of synodality. But the Vatican has announced that on the Solemnity of the Saints Apostles Peter and Paul, “Leo XIV will preside over the Eucharistic Celebration, bless the Pallia and impose them on the new Metropolitan Archbishops.” So, the Pallia will be presented in Rome and not “back home.”
