  1. Ya, sometimes they even just hire the daughters of famous actors for stuff instead of finding new talent.

  2. Also because of nepotism but she doesn’t wanna talk about that.

  3. Everyone wants to just pump and dump these days. Nobody wants to take time and make new, worth while films.

  4. Start digging through film history and you learn that Hollywood goes through cycles of remakes and sequels. For example, A Star Is Born has been made four times. There are 34 versions of some variation of Romeo and Juliet according to Google. We’re in one of these periods and it will take some risk taking studios and creators to get us out. New Line Cinema bet the farm on LOTR and on Peter Jackson whose last film prior to this was The Frighteners. That series was a game changer at the time and so was Sam Raimi’s first two Spider-Man movies. The fantasy and comic book movie genres was not very popular at the time. The Matrix series also breathed life into Sci-fi with completely original stories. I think that audience burnout will bring us some paradigm shifting tent pole films and we’ll get out of this funk. Indie films will continue to be a source of newer ideas, but big spectacles tend to make Hollywood switch things up.

  5. Hollywood was bound to run out of original ideas at some point.

  6. OMG, you be careful way way way out on that limb, dear.

  7. I’m sorry but I absolutely adore her continuing obvious nothing takes. I don’t know why but I die laughing every time she gives an opinion on Hollywood.

  8. She’s right. But I think the obsession with remakes is symptom of a different problem. Late stage capitalism honestly, cause everything is now boiled down to what formula generates the most capital with lowest risk. All the stuff is remakes and formulaic, and all the casting is done by social media presence or people with access to capital or connections (nepotism). Issa Rae was right when she said talent has to start making their own media or those stories won’t be made.

  9. I’d watch “Fifty Shades: Vanta Black” if Dakota Johnson reprised her role.

  10. Couldn’t agree more. Took my teenage out to the movies a few weeks ago and practically all of the previews were for movies from the early 2000’s

  11. They might as well just start putting the children of other wealthy actors in movies.

  12. It’s also a mess because actors can’t be bothered to research their parts, so they come across as idiots in interviews, like she has done….

  13. They want to make money off things that have already proven they will make money. Kinda like the current music industry.

  14. I think this is both true and not true at the same time.

There’s always good stuff being made, but people like to tell themselves this so they can feel like they’re not part of the problem because they haven’t been going to the movies. Historically, how many of you saw Friendship, or Tornado, or The Accountant 2 in theaters?

  15. Says the multigenerational nepobaby who got her big break acting in Fifty Shades, a smutty fanfiction based on Twilight … oh fuck, maybe she has a point.

  16. I agree with that. And they want to remake movies that need to be left alone. They are great the way they were.
