Our nation will heal, the fires from this abomination regime will be put out and hopefully some will be prosecuted for their crimes during Trump's second term and we will be at the forefront and respected again. November 2026 will be the beginning of the end for Trump and his sycophants.

Fffffffuck that. I will NEVER let Trump supporters forget what they fucking did. Let them go down in history as the fascists they fucking are.
Something fairly terrible is going to have to happen before they admit they got hoodwinked.
“at the forefront and respected again” is going to take generations as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

Or the beginning of a much longer and larger nightmare.
I deeply admire Adam Kinzinger and hope he’s right, but I suspect that for 70 million voters, they’ll only leave Trump when they die of old age. We are bombarded by stories about how people are regretting having voted for Trump, but even a few hundred stories doesn’t counteract the broader narrative that his popularity has dropped a few percent. MAGA is a cult.
This profoundly underestimates the stupidity of people.
Unfortunately, there will always be someone who’s too far down the rabbit hole to admit they were wrong in supporting them.
Evidence: current Nazis.
Remember in 2015 when everyone thought that in 10 years Trump supporters would be ashamed they voted for that clown?
Yeah, its been 10 and they are only stronger.
Unfortunately he’s grooming Don Jr to pick up the mantle.
Yes, surely he will go away if we just think wishfully enough! Who needs action, or to take our heads out of our butts?
I wish I could share his optimism.
That’s assuming “this country” is still around in 10 years.
I don’t think this is true. 10 years from now most Trump supporters will be dead or will have little to no contact with their kids.
Nope. These people keep doubling down on stupidity and hypocrisy. They will never admit they were wrong and pull all kinds of mental gymnastics to ignore his failures and claim them as success.
The question is also if Trump changed the republican party for ever or just temporarily.
I disagree. This is a well-established pattern in the long arc of history: people caught in the midst of mass delusion or ideological fervor rarely recognize it as such. It often takes decades, sometimes centuries, before the full moral clarity sets in. Once the passions have cooled, the partisan fog has lifted, and the people involved are long dead, only then may future generations see the period for what it was.
Trump supporters aren’t likely to renounce him en masse. Some will double down until death. Others will shift blame: “He was good until the deep state ruined him,” or “I liked his policies, not his tweets.” Only when we’re dead and history is rewritten by people with distance will Trumpism be universally treated as an era of madness. By then, historians will ask the same questions we ask about other mass delusions: “How could so many believe this?”
But in the meantime people will double down. That’s the real danger: backlash, grievance politics, and increasingly radical successors. Trump may be gone by 2035, but the instincts that created him will survive
Trumpism will die only when the conditions that made it possible (the disinformation economy, social media echo chambers, anti-intellectualism, distrust of institutions, skepticism of science, dismal civics education, epistemic breakdown, lack of support for displaced workers, and housing affordability) are fixed. That’s generational work, not a 5-10 year inevitability.
If Democrats want to win elections, they need to stop expecting that this will all solve itself, that the madness will self-implode from the inside, and instead work on fixing the problems that enabled it. This isn’t a passing fever, it’s a structural illness. Treat the disease.
I am more pessimistic. It took over two decades for the GOP to stop jerking off to anything Ronald Reagan related. Go watch the GOP primary debates on YouTube. You will know what I mean.
I’d like to believe that, but judging by the number of people who still fly Confederate flags, I’m not so sure.
Nah. The confederacy wasn’t even eradicated and instead left as a festering wound.
Trumpism will just need someone good to bring it all back again.
The same thing happened in Germany in the 1950s. You couldn’t find anyone who supported Hitler.
The Maga’s and the Trumpers are on the wrong side of history.
In 10 years there will still be diehard, hardcore idiots that believe Donnie was sent from God and America needs him now more than ever.
Hopefully they are ridiculed mercilessly for the rest of their lives by a majority of the population that never wants the stupidity that’s occuring now to ever happen again.
Kids in 2035: Oh so you did this to us?
People will continue to support until he dies. That’s it. Once he’s out of office, people will still lick his taint.
We need a list of Trump Supporters. Brand them like The Inglorious Bastards.
I’m sorry, but there isn’t a hint of regret from many of the MAGA I know.
Trump will pass but there are plenty of Trump sycophants waiting to fill the void. It will be horrifying to watch them fight for supremacy but one will emerge
Yeah, there’s an increase in family members choosing no contact with each other as a result of this manure show, i suspect that will only increase in time
I really, really doubt that. Trump was a catalyst but even if he died tomorrow the damage would take much, muuuch longer to heal
There will be tiktokers saying “Trump did nothing wrong”. As soon as it’s over and they will be the ones saying Trump is doing nothing wrong currently
Doubt it. The cult is real.
Where do you think those morons are gonna go? They have already proven they don’t care about his behavior, the law or the constitution. Those dumb drones are drones for life.
Or in 5yrs everyone will verbally support trump because if you don’t maga nazis will kill you and your family
I wish I believed this were the case. People who voted this way don’t feel shame for what’s happening in this country right now.
Everyone wants to pretend this is some novel thing, like we didn’t ship Japanese-Americans off to internment camps during the second world war, like much of our nation wasn’t built on the back of slaves.
The paradox of intolerance suggests that we are not going to emerge from this sinkhole of authoritarian domination with the same DNC leadership that favors writing stern letters instead of strategic action.
I don’t agree. That’s optimism in living form , and I appreciate Mr. Kinzinger’s sense of resilience.
But the damage done like Covid is lasting. There are families torn apart by Q-Anon that will never heal there are whole industries brought low because “science isn’t real” , trillions upon trillions of dollars in disinvestment and wealth destruction that was engaged upon for the enjoyment of one hyper-wealthy conman and some very dysfunctional Silicon Valley defectives that far from the new steel barons can barely articulate themselves beyond naked theft.
We can say whatever we want about JP Morgan or Rockefeller but they used their wealth to create wealth and build portions of America. The likes of Elon Musk could have brought us to the Moon or even Mars but instead their ego and ideological enfeeblement means instead of lunar colonies or explorers on Mars we get an IP auction in Milpitas, California sooner rather than later, and violently predisposed shareholders.
Mr. Trump, for his measure – brings one high value gift to the entire planet one fine day….when he goes golfing for the last time and we no longer have to wonder – what treasonously stupid shit is he going to do today, the aftermath of his regime will take us years, if not decades to recover from.
In the kindest analysis Mr. Kinzinger isn’t wrong some unitary family that’s largely functional will likely have kids eye-roll at their parents , just as he imagines.
But there will be grave damage to the nation, the people and to the world and our nation’s place in it, millions, perhaps billions of people will be less well off and more endangered because the presence of our nation was tarnished and the less said about the better angels of our nature that were tossed into a torture camp or detention facility for the amusement of Mr. Trump’s henchmen, the better, I suppose.
Pretty dream. In 10 years your country is going to be the pure totalitarian hellhole.
That’s the best case scenario. Worst case scenario everyone is hampering to claim they voted for our dear leader because otherwise it’s to El Salvador for you
I dont agree there will always be enough stupid people in the US to vote for a mad, racist, sexist bigot because he resembles them… Unless we divert 50% of military budget to education…
Trumpism? Maybe. Hatred, stupidity, and racism? Nah.
As much as we like to believe this, we still see Confederate flags flying proudly 160 years later.
Wishful thinking. One of his horrible kids will take his place.
It’s going to be replaced by something more contemporarily right-wing in flavor like Asmongold-ism
They did this after Dubya too. Couldn’t find anyone who voted for him. We can’t let them ‘forget’ this time.
