Czechs love a good bargain, whether it’s clothing, electronics, or groceries at an open air market.  So much so that many consumers often wait for discounts rather than buying at full price. But this weekend they got more than they bargained for when Reebok forgot to translate euros into crowns offering its goods for next to nothing.

Men’s T-shirts for 28 crowns, women’s for 16, sneakers for 80 — the Reebok e-shop mistakenly swapped euros for Czech crowns, offering its goods for less than the price of an ice-cream. The news spread like wildfire on social networks and Czech shoppers lost no time availing themselves of the opportunity to snap up dozens of items for peanuts.  It is not certain how many orders were placed, but social media users shared screenshots of their order numbers, which reached into the 400,000s. The incident made headlines and sparked numerous jokes online.

As expected, the company has already begun sending emails to customers informing them that their orders are being canceled due to pricing errors and that refunds will be issued.

And buyers are accepting it with good grace. Because if there is something that Czechs love even more than a bargain, it’s a good joke.
