A man has been arrested and charged following a bizarre incident near the Royal Canadian Legion in Spaniard’s Bay on Thursday night.
The RCMP were first notified of an off-road vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner around 6:30 p.m.
It’s alleged that the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Joshua Gilbert, was doing wheelies, burnouts, and travelling at a high rate of speed outside the business, before striking a guard rail and damaging a car parked at the Legion.
According to the RCMP, he also screamed at people both inside and outside the business.
When police arrived, they say Gilbert, who was not wearing a helmet, drove by police at a high rate of speed, screaming and making gestures at the officer in the process.
The accused was later arrested at a home in Spaniard’s Bay without incident. He appeared in court on Friday on charges of dangerous operation, causing a disturbance, and damage to property.
The investigation is ongoing with further charges pending.
