On Thursday, June 12, 2025, Patriarch Daniel of Romanian received at the Patriarchal Residence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Chalkis, accompanied by Alexandros Katsiaras, Director of Theologia, the official journal of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.
Patriarch Daniel welcomed the Greek delegation to the Romanian Patriarchate, noting that the visit took place during a period still marked by the blessing of the Feasts of the Resurrection, Ascension, and Pentecost.
The Patriarch also offered the guests an overview of the historical and ecclesiastical context in which the Romanian Orthodox Church received autocephaly in 1885 and was elevated to Patriarchal status in 1925.
Patriarch Daniel emphasized that the year 2025, marking the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate, is being commemorated with a series of events and activities to highlight this historic milestone.
Metropolitan Chrysostomos expressed gratitude for the warm reception and officially invited the Romanian Patriarchate to participate in the second edition of the international conference marking the 100th anniversary of Theologia journal. The conference will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from September 29 to October 1, 2025.
He also thanked Patriarch Daniel for delegating Archbishop Ciprian of Buzău and Vrancea and Associate Professor Dr Gheorghe Holbea from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Patriarch Justinian” in Bucharest to attend the first edition of the conference in Athens in 2023.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Patriarch Daniel highlighted the need to strengthen ties between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Church of Greece to promote the values of Orthodoxy in today’s society. He also extended his best wishes for successfully organizing the upcoming church and academic event in Thessaloniki.
