South Simcoe Police say after the suspect surrendered, officers recovered a high-velocity 22-calibre pellet rifle with ammunition

One person is facing multiple weapons charges after police near Barrie responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at a group of teenagers from his balcony.

South Simcoe Police were called to an address in Innisfil at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Witnesses told the officers they heard gunshots and saw a man pointing a rifle from a balcony.

Additional resources, including the Emergency Response Team, were called in to set up a containment and a perimeter around the residence. 

Police say a suspect soon surrendered.

No one else was in the residence, and police say a search turned up a high-velocity 22-calibre pellet rifle along with ammunition.

A 66-year-old Innisfil man is charged with: 


Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose CC 88
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm CC 91(1)
Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition CC 86(1)
Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a) x4

Police did not release the suspect’s name. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
