Applicants must have knowledge and understanding of economic development processes and the business environment, as well as knowledge and understanding of the scope of the Competition Council and the application of competition law.
They should also have an understanding of the economic aspects of competition, market research methodology and the application of economic analysis, as well as global economic developments and international economic processes. In addition they should also have an understanding of the structure and basic principles of public administration, administrative processes and financial management issues.
Applicants must have a minimum level of English proficiency of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in addition to Latvian language fluency.
The selection of applicants will take place in three rounds. During the first round, the competition commission will evaluate the submitted documents and the applicants’ compliance with the mandatory requirements. In the second round of the competition, the applicants will present to the competition commission their vision of the proposals for the Competition Council’s action to promote Latvia’s international competitiveness. In the third round, the applicants’ management competencies will be assessed: strategic vision, orientation towards achieving results, ability to make decisions and take responsibility, managing change and leading a team.
At the end of the competition, the applicant or applicants with the highest score will be recommended to the Minister of Economics – who may or may not then choose one to recommend to the Cabinet for approval.
Upon assuming office, the Chairman of the Competition Council can expect a monthly salary of 4,883 euros (before taxes), as well as the chance to represent Latvia at the international level and to operate in the European Network of Competition Authorities and the International Network of Competition Authorities.
