From the SIPRI website:

The SIPRI TIV, or Trend Indicator Value, is a tool developed by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) to measure the volume of international arms transfers. It's a standardized unit used to compare the transfer of different weapons, representing the military resource transfer rather than the financial value.

  1. The biggest defense firms in Norway and France are partially state-owned; Nammo and Thales respectively

  2. Somewhat ironic that Norway and Sweden are among the top 5 arms exporters as both are perceived as peaceful countries. Their advocacy for open international political dialogues and their involvement as third-party peace mediators have given them international reputations for being “peace nations”.
