The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that both the Air Force and Navy successfully intercepted seven drones launched from Iran within an hour on Sunday morning, according to official news agency TPS.

Iran has claimed it used a newly developed ballistic missile in its recent strikes on Israel. According to the state-linked FARS news agency, the Haj Qassem guided ballistic missile was launched during an overnight wave of attacks into Sunday.

Earlier on May 4, Iranian defence minister Gen. Aziz Nasirzadeh told state television that the missile was designed to bypass advanced air defence systems, including the US military’s THAAD, which is stationed in Israel, as well as the Patriot missile defence system and others, CNN reported.

The missile was unveiled earlier in May. As per Iran’s Tasnim news agency, it is solid-fueled, has a range of 1,200 kilometres, and features a manoeuvrable warhead capable of evading missile defence shields.
