  4. Total number estimated to be lost to WW2 by the Soviet Union is 27 million people. Naturlly, Putin and Trump increase that number to almost double.

    Besides that, during WW2 two awful regimes were fighting each other in Easter Europe. One got denazified, as it should. The other went on to do business as usual under Russian influence. One admitted to the genocide they comitted, the other basically says Holodomor and a few other atrocities either didn’t happen or weren’t their fault.

    Russian & Germany combined to form the original axis powers. They happily worked together to invade Poland and start off WW2. Problem was Germany betrayed Russia and attacked them. Stalin had no choice but to go running to the West for help. Without the allies help Russia would have been doomed. If the allies didn’t provide the way materials Russia needed they had no way of producing the materials themselves.

  7. Soviets were a contributing factor to WWII. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact gave Hitler the incentive to attack Western Europe.

  19. Beyond believing that Putin actually fought in WW2, where the fuck is he getting the 51 million number? Most estimates I’ve read are 8-10 military deaths and 20 million civilian deaths. Approx 25-30 million is a massive number lost, but Trump is just casually almost doubling it.

  23. I had a MAGA type bring up how Russia was the US’s ally in WW II. Was totally ignorant about US and Soviet pilots going head to head in Korea, Soviet AA crews shooting down US pilots in Vietnam and insisted the Ukrainians were mistreating their “Russian” minorities so Russia was trying to help them by invading. These MAGA types will believe anything they are told to believe by Trump. A mix of ignorance, stupidity and loyalty it seems.

  28. Even if Trump when he said “he” referring to Putin really meant Russia and used Putin as a physical embodiment of the country. What Trump fails to realize is that Russia was complicit in fighting along size the Nazis and completely happy to destroy Europe for their gain up until the Nazis double crossed them. Only then did the Allies exploit the Nazi betrayal to bring Russia into the fold and strengthen the war effort against Germany (The enemy of my enemy is my friend). If things with Russia were so great, WW2 wouldn’t have ended with the tensions between the Allies and Russia that history documented in great detail, preceding and culminating in the Cold War which has been going on ever since. Russia isn’t “the good guy” fighting in the name of altruism and justice. Russia was fighting for survival with Nazi Germanyl which drew Nazi troops away from the Allies offensive/defensive actions. It was a partnership of convenience really. Never forget that both Nazi Germany and Russia simultaneously attacked Poland at the start of the war and planned to split Europe in two.

    No President Trump, Russia did not fight along side you, the Allies exploited a poor decision the Nazis made to expand the war effort and force Nazi Germany into fighting on two fronts. This ultimately gave the Allies the opportunity to land troops in Italy and France. A simple tactical decision.

    How one would EVER think that the Russians were the good guys in WW2 is beyond me.

  35. I don’t think that he thought Putin, himself, fought in the war. He’s speaking through his own lens of the world.

    He sees people as the state. So when he says that Putin fought, he says that Russia fought. And that’s a problem because he believes that the Head of State IS the State.

    And that is fucking terrifying. When corrupt heads fawn and grovel to him, he’ll see that as friendly and good. But when allies stand up to his bullshit then he’ll see that as defiance regardless of the economic, social, and militaristic allegiances our nations have formed.

    Americans, remember this. He’ll sacrifice your lives in a heartbeat if he wants something. Because in his mind, the state is there to serve him and not other way around.
