Ahoj,

It’s an open secret in Hungarian society that if you need a “morning after” / emergency contraception pill, you just take the first train to Štúrovo, enjoy the scenery and visit a pharmacy where you can buy it over the counter, without any prescription. This is because getting a morning after pill is quite challenging in Hungary, to the point where when you would physically get it, it would already be probably too late.

Here’s the twist. My wife takes regular, 21-a-month contraceptive pills, it was suggested to her because of an underlying medical condition. Problem is, we are actively being fleeced and ripped off by her gyno, because she always prescribes it for 3 months only. Her original gyno two countries away (I am maďarský občan, she ain’t) prescribed it yearly. The consultation fee isn’t exactly cheap and it’s been annoying us for a while.

The question is, **can you buy the regular (!) birth control pill without a prescription in Slovakia?** I have seen very conflicting information.

Ďakujem!

Edit: a thumbs up to my Northern neighbours, you have been helpful. In case someone would find this thread in the future – I recently found out about the [OCsOTC site](https://ocsotc.org/) that can be helpful. It seems that in the CEE region and its vicinity, Slovenia, Ukraine, Serbia are the countries where this is possible – assuming this is up to date, of course.

  1. You need a perscription from a doctor here.

Have you considered changing your gynecologist? From what you have said it seems that they are more interested in their wallet than their patients well being. You don’t owe them a thing.
