The UK is looking at forcing employers to reveal salaries upfront

  1. I am not 100% sure of the downsides here? Is it just to keep salaries a trade secret?

  2. This is a net positive, employers will often try and get potential employees to go through as many as 4/5 interview and assessment stages before even mentioning the salary. It’s a con, nothing more nothing less.

  3. Seems like it’ll shut some loopholes and expand some scope

Plus it’ll be nice to know if I’m applying for a well paid role or not before I bother

  4. Great decision. No more of this competitive salary bullshit.

  5. UK should force employers to reveal _their_ salaries also. Pretty hard to deny that £500 pay rise when you’re taking home £2 million

  6. Your colleagues will know how much you earn though. And especially as a new employee as the job ad will obviously publicise it.

At my old company I worked at we actually often used to get requests come up in the all hands of people asking if the company could send out an email with all the employees salaries in it. I found it a bit weird personally, but that question came up fairly often so there must be interest in it I guess.

Some will be fine with it, others won’t.
