Israel’s Netanyahu faces government vote as coalition threatens collapse • FRANCE 24 English

who faces a vote to dissolve parliament today key coalition partners threatening to bring down his government in reality though well few think it’s the end of the road for Israel’s longest serving prime minister who’s been battling corruption charges for years or his far-right government the move to dissolve will only pass if Netanyahu’s ultraorththodox coalition partners break with him over the failure to pass a law exempting their community from military service that an issue that has bitterly divided Israelis especially during the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip a little earlier we spoke to our correspondent Ngatanapolski in Jerusalem it’s going to be a rockus day at the Knesset the prime minister is still engaged in many maneuvers to try and postpone this vote by a week which is an indication of how concerned he is but basically during the whole course of the day there’s going to be a debate over whether this prime minister can be trusted or not um and it appears that two of his coalition party members two ultraorththodox parties who had hoped to get out of him who were promised that they would get a law exempting their public from the draft the universal draft in Israel um are going to join the opposition now this is not as dramatic as it sounds in the respect that his government will not be toppled immediately this is a preliminary vote this would kick off a process and if this law does in fact pass as many believe um it would immediately go to committee it’s understood that Netanyahu would try and keep this law then mired in committee for at least a month and try and drag the process of the real votes on his future in politics out at least till the end of this Knesset session and kind of win uh a reprieve until summer um but it’s unclear and if this law does pass as many believe it will it will leave a much weakened Netanyahu another major question hovering over Israelis today is if this law passes will the attorney general immediately declare even though it’s a preliminary law will she declare that this is now an acting government and not a fully endowed government and that would already limit Netanyahu and his government’s ability to act legislatively politically and diplomatically

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a parliamentary vote to dissolve the government amid threats from coalition partners, but many doubt this will end his long tenure despite ongoing corruption charges and criticism over security failures after the October 2023 Hamas attack.

  1. the only way to solve the problem is to dissove the apartheid regime and have a one state solution that encourages all to live under one set of laws. Its that easy. That is what ws set out in the Balfour declaration.

  2. I remember when Israel used to have the sympathies of the world. Now few people like Netanyahu, Ben Gvir, Smootrich, Danielle has ruined that. Israel isn’t gonna recover from this for life.

  3. Just push him out hes been on that seat way too long hes not good for the country …selfish arrogant disgusting , we can't even call him a human being

  4. The irony is that one can see that most Israelis claiming to have ethnic origins in Palestine are of Polish and Ukrainian origin. Lets call Netanjahu by his real family name from now on which was Mileikowsky before his father changed it.

  5. i still love Israel but i can not support Netanyahu anymore Netanyahu has got to go!! He is a threat to the world and could cause not just Israel to collapse but also cause America to go with it and cause ww3. I think in the end Iran's regime will win this.
