  1. Nice to see Parliament focussing ont the big issues.

  2. Policy that only applies to the working class.
The rich, like bullshit parking, take that hit any day.

  3. Rather than allowing 10 days of ‘fine free’ term time holidays, just divide the country into 6 regions and rotate the weeks they have school holidays so every week of the year a region is on school holiday (exception being Christmas when everyone will be off)…

That way they cant hike the prices.

  4. Hopefully they come to something agreeable like allowable time off as that would mean my kid can stop being ill a week before Xmas holidays and randomly in the middle of June.

  5. The problem is that teachers will be expected to get students caught up on stuff they have missed which is ignored

  6. Why dont they just give all kids a week or 2 of holiday they can use each year so the parents can take them on a decent holiday, kids will probably learn more in a week abroad than they would have in school anyway.

  7. Just be savvy about it…

I received a call from their head of year while we were at the airport on our way home. “Did you ask for permission?” he asked. No, why would I ask you for permission while the school was closed for the six-week holiday?

They missed 2 days at the start of term… Lo and behold, they’re both inline for 7, 8 or 9’s…

The days of me cow-towing to Mr/Ms Gestapo are long gone…

  8. Just have an allowed 5 to 10 days off, and have a decent plan for homework that has to be completed during the next proper holiday so they can catch up. And make the fines beyond that 5 to 10 days absolutely ridiculous like a percentage of earnings or something so that it’s fair for everyone.

  9. Can we please have proportinal fines. Every single new type of fine or pollution charge or whatever is at a flat rate. That just leads to the poor being more and more restricted. make it like a weeks income or something and id fully support it.

The rich dont care about flat fines.

  10. The trouble is that fines are only a tax on the rich.

  11. Maybe they should  debate capping the amount airlines can hike prices in the holiday period then. That way people can afford the trips when the schools prefer them to go.

  12. Just make the fines proportional so it’s fair. I don’t want them to hike the prices and forced to pay higher prices year round if they can just take their kids when it’s cheap for the rest of us

  13. I took my children out of school for a holiday recently, do I regret it? No. If they want parents to stop taking kids out of school for a week or two holiday then tell holiday places and airlines to stop doubling their prices during the half terms. We’re not all rich pricks with endless amounts of money to splash. Some of us work hard and want to enjoy a holiday with our hard earned money and if we can only do that during term times then so be it. Like I told my daughter’s school, send a fine my way, I won’t pay it and even if I did, bet it would be cheaper than half term holiday prices.
