The Republic of Moldova has not yet received any request for assistance from its citizens in Iran, and the authorities do not have updated data on their situation. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Mîțu, specified that the institution has sent official inquiries to the Iranian authorities to obtain information about the Moldovans located there, reports IPN.
“So far, no requests have been received from the citizens there. We do not have up-to-date information, but we have made some approaches to the authorities there in the hope that we will receive this information,” Mihai Mîțu declared to the press.
Regarding the situation in Israel, the official stated that about 70 Moldovans have inquired about the possibilities of leaving the country. “Our embassy in Israel is in constant contact with them. We have not reported any critical situations or cases where citizens of the Republic of Moldova would be in difficulty or injured so far,” Mihai Mîțu mentioned.
He appealed to all Moldovans in Israel to register through the form available on the ministry’s website, so that the authorities can accurately monitor the situation of each individual. He also urged people to follow the developments of the situation, to respect the instructions of the authorities, and to stay close to bomb shelters.
According to the official, the evacuation from Israel is currently taking place only by land, through several border points, including Allenby Bridge, Yitzhak Rabin Crossing, Jordan River Crossing, and Taba – the latter being open non-stop.
The MAE estimates indicate that over 11 thousand Moldovan citizens are on Israeli territory, but the exact figure remains difficult to determine.
Amid the increasingly intense conflict between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel warning for Israel and activated the Crisis Cell. Moldovan citizens in the area can call the emergency telephone line of the Embassy in Israel: +972 52-7789772.
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated after Israel launched, on June 13, the military operation “The Rising Lion,” targeting Iranian facilities allegedly involved in the nuclear program. In response, Iran attacked with hundreds of drones, and the exchange of threats between the two countries continues. Security risks in the region remain high.
