Hey all, a few weeks back I got into a conversation with my great uncle Ronnie about YouTube(He's not really a internet savy) and how some of their cover songs getting alot of attention recently after the release of Sinners and how that's driving people to other Corries songs, and I found out he was unaware there was still such an avid Corries fanbase out there, he absolutely loved reading the comments people were leaving and the stories they had about how they knew about them or first listened to their music.

I invite anyone who wishes to share to do so and I'll make a little compilation for him the next time I see him before he moves up North

  1. I grew up on the tape deck in the car playing either The Corries, or ‘Scotland the What?’.

I also remember my grandad having a VHS, and one of the live performances had Ronnie Browne being fucking raging at a crowd for trying to clap along (probably out of time). I also seem to remember a version of ‘Braes of Killiecrankie’ which was a single shot of the two of them walking and singing from a long way away, walking past the camera and away up the hill.

  2. Used to live in Macmerry (as my ex’s main family farm abutted it) and we howled with laughter whenever we played “The Portree Kid”

  3. Was introduced to the Corries by an old guy called Charlie when I was about 18. He was a friend of mines upstairs neighbour, and we used to visit him on a Sunday after a weekend on the sesh. He would make us bacon or sausage sandwiches and we’d all have a dram and a smoke (Charlie was a bit of an alcoholic) and basically come down from our weekend.

Every time we would visit, without fail, he would put on a Corries record and tell us that it was about time we started listening to “real music”. I loved those Sundays just sitting in his flat with him and my friends listening to the Corries and everything being so chill.

I’m 41 now, I met my partner 6 years ago, and we hit it off almost immediately when we met. We were talking about the kinds of things we used to get up to when we were young and I was telling her about visiting Charlie and listening to the Corries at his place and it turned out that she is also a massive fan of the Corries!!!!

We have a son now, and his middle name is Corrie, that’s how much they mean to us. We still listen to them all the time, and now our little guy listens to them and loves the tunes!

  4. Been looking for someone/s similar but still performing. I know there’s the Sorries.

  5. My whole family has been Corries fans. I was introduced to the duo by my mother who had more Vinyls than anything else.

I used to sing in the pub circuits with my friend and my go to were the Corrie Songbooks, with Macphersons Rant being my favourite.

Say hello and Thank You to him from me!

  6. The Corries were a huge influence on me as a fledgling folkie many moons ago. I still love hearing their music. Glad to hear that Ronnie is keeping up with things and would like to wish him all the best.

  7. Once I found out about the racism I couldn’t get over it. Flower of Scotland has outstayed it’s welcome.

  8. I love The Corries. I couldn’t possibly pick one favourite song but I do like Hunting Tower, the Silver Tassie, Lowlands of Holland, the Haughs o’ Cromdale, and The Loch Tay Boat Song, just off the top of my head among many many others!

  9. I think we had a VHS of a performance taped off the telly. Dark Lochnagar was definitely on it. This would’ve been the mid-late 80s and it was watched for another 10 years after that! Why does nostalgia have to hurt after 40. My mum is a singer, and cut her teeth on those old cumallye’s. I’m slowly convincing her to get them recorded. Lord of the Dance, She Moved Thru The Fair, Banks o The Roses, The Corncrake etc.

  10. OGMMYMYOGODODODODO!! I’VE BEEN LITERALLY WIAITNF FOR SCOTLAND SUB TO POST A CORRIES POST, THIS IS FANTASTIC!!! I’M OBSESSED WITH THEM, BEST BAND💙🤍💙🤍

  11. Our parents would play The Corries semi-regularly, so I know the words to a fair few songs; me and most of my mates definitely knew the words to [“There’s No Pubs in Kirkintilloch” ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr7j70ENqKc)off by heart, though. “Is [town name] even a real town if the Corries didny write a song about ye’s?” was our go-to reply to anyone ripping the pish out of Kirky back in the day.
