  1. Acreage for sale (numerator) and map were sourced from here – [https://www.wilderness.org/articles/media-resources/250-million-acres-public-lands-eligible-sale-senr-budget-reconciliation-package](https://www.wilderness.org/articles/media-resources/250-million-acres-public-lands-eligible-sale-senr-budget-reconciliation-package)

Total land area by state (denominator) was sourced from wikipedia – [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_area](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_area)

The graphic was made with R(ggplot) and Powerpoint

  2. Confusing title and key. These aren’t state lands, they’re federal public lands.

Edit: These lands aren’t available for sale. They’re potentially eligible for sale. Also, citing your data sources is absolutely critical here.

  3. Stealing land you own to sell it to corporations. Utah republican legislators keeps losing Court Decisions to overrule the vote of the people and sell it anyway. Disgusting greedy pigs.

  4. what i’d really like is for someone with experience reading this legislation to ballpark the actual projected sales. by my reading, the maximum might be 0.75% of both BLM and USFS land total over 5 years (close to 2M acres), or that same maximum percentage every 60 days. there is no practical pathway to administratively handle that many sales every 60 days, so i think the legislation is prompting total auction listings over 5 years of 2M acres or less.

if however they actually somehow were to list 0.75% of the “disposable” lands every 60 days and somehow sell every auction slate (again, this would be physically/administratively impossible, but let’s imagine) that would leave approximately 20 auctions during the remainder of trump term #2. and would total a maximum of 1.9M * 20 = ~38M acres.

again i want to reiterate that such a massive sell-off would be impossible given the language in the bill, and the nature of our court system. but i could see them hitting the 1M acre mark after 3.5 years. realistically the republicans don’t even aim for that — they want maybe on the order of ~100k acres that theyve had their eyes on for years in utah, idaho, and wyoming, and this hugely exaggerated power play is their way of covering up the much smaller (but still enormous) play they’ve been aiming at for the past decade.

feel free to read pages 30-40:

though the pages on mining and logging leases are likely to fly more “under the radar” but cause potentially more damage.

  5. I imagine a lot of that could be turned into beautiful state and national parks 🙁

Good visual though, especially the bar chart on the left. I had no idea it was such a large percentage of some states.

  6. Oh cool! So now Cliven can stop freeloading and purchase his own land in Nevada, right? Right……?

  7. Selling out america. Billionaires will buy it all up.

  8. I just got back from a trip in Reno, Nevada and saw a herd of wild horses literally right in our back yard on the outskirts of the city. This administration is evil beyond recognition.

  9. Out of absolutely EVERYTHING that DJT will do; this is the worst imo.

If the Democrat’s had any nuts they’d announce they will be acquiring it under legislation as soon as they are able to. Put the buyers off.

  10. Just curious, if bought, what’s to be built out there? It’s not like you can farm.

  11. Great, I was just thinking the billionaires needed to own more of the country.

  12. Each state should buy their land, ruin the feds plan

  13. Sooo what’s left of Native land in this area and national park land?

  14. Here’s how to keep this from happening:

Install the free 5calls app. It will help you call your Rep and Senators, and will give you a script to read (pick the sale of public land issue near the bottom of the big beautiful bill topics).

If you can, call every day, especially if you have a Rep or Senators that are (R).

  15. Enjoy the National Parks while you can. Feels like it’s not gonna be long before China owns a large portion of the US.

  16. Even if you thought this was a good idea, surely its a bad idea to sell it virtually all at the same time, flooding the market with cheap government land? Like damn, sell a 100 acres every week for the next… 600 years

  17. Nevada idaho utah oregon, literally 4 of my 5 favourite states. Fuuuuuuucckkkk. I live right on the ID/WA border 🙁

  18. Nevada is going to get bought up for water rights and turned into alfalfa farms. See what happened in Arizona and go from there.

  19. Trump wants to sell the people’s land and pocket the bribes all along the way.

  20. This incredibly sad for two reasons. First one is pretty obvious, that’s OUR land and it should remain protected and available for reasonable recreational purposes. Second is that I haven’t seen ANY stories about this… It is a HUGE amount of land.

  21. Just the name of the bill shows how fucking stupid our country is

  22. America’s for sale

And you can get a good deal on it

    And make a healthy profit
