Eleven people have been arrested after a second night of trouble in Londonderry, police have said.
Fourteen PSNI officers were injured after violence flared when around 30 masked youths gathered close to Nailor’s Row shortly after 6pm yesterday evening.
Bricks, bottles and masonry were thrown at police lines.
Local MP Colum Mr Eastwood said young people were risking their future for “a moment of madness”.
He said elderly people living nearby were left terrified.
During the disorder, which began from 7.40pm, multiple petrol bombs, fireworks, heavy masonry, planks of wood and bricks were thrown at police who were deployed outside Alexander House, where a number of older people reside.
Eleven arrests were made – eight male teenagers aged between 14 and 17 and three men aged, 29, 30 and 47 years old.
Each of the teenagers and two of the males, aged 29 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour. The 47-year-old was arrested on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting riot. They all remain in custody at this time.

Political representatives condemned the trouble.
Mr Eastwood said: “For the second night in a row young people put themselves and others in danger around Nailor’s Row. It’s the last thing that anyone in the city wants or needs and it needs to stop before someone is seriously hurt or worse.
“Elderly people living in nearby Alexander House were left worried and distressed about what was happening around their homes. They don’t want or deserve that.
“The last thing that any of us wants is for young people in Derry to throw away their futures for a moment of madness.”
Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy also appealed for calm.
He said: “I condemn those responsible for the recent trouble, including attacks on homes and the police.
“I am appealing for calm and for those involved to stop causing havoc in our community and distress to local residents.
“They will not distract from the progress being made by the vast majority of people in Derry who are working hard to transform our city and build a better future.”
On Monday night, officers came under attack after the same group of youths attempted to attack homes in the Fountain Estate.
Three officers were injured after police came under attack during the overnight disorder.
Authorities were pelted with debris and fireworks shortly after 8pm, close to the city walls.
A crowd had gathered in the Orchard Row area of the city before police were attacked.
It’s understood that several attempts were made to attack homes in the Fountain Estate before police intervened.
Videos posted to social media show crowds of youths shooting fireworks at officers in riot gear.

The silence in this sub from the usual local redditors that only a week ago had multiple OPs and hundreds of posts criticising loyalist rioters speaks volumes. Bring on the downvotes🤣
Much you bet that 47 year old is a double agent, tasked with making sure ‘both sides are as bad as each other’?
Racists
Wee scrotes

“If they can riot – so can we” mentality
I bet this thread won’t get several hundred comments and the same interaction as those last week did for reasons this sub would never want to grapple with. Definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
Honestly, what a load of old cobblers. You’d think by now, these sorts of antics would have gone out with the ark. But no, here things are again, with the poor coppers getting a pasting and the old folks terrified in their flats.
It’s not just “a moment of madness,” is it? It’s the whole sorry soup of things. You’ve got those lingering, dreary ‘legacy attitudes’ – as if holding onto grudges is some kind of noble pursuit. Then there’s the sheer, unadulterated boredom.
Add in unsupervised social media. Kids nowadays, glued to their phones, probably egging each other on for TikTok glory, totally oblivious to the real-world consequences. Where are their parents, one wonders? Probably glued to their own screens, or just plain crap at the job, if we’re being blunt. It’s a recipe for stupidity, and unfortunately, it seems some are still cooking it up.
Attacking their own community and elderly folk, it’s disgraceful! Good they were quick on the arrests, make an example.
This shite needs to start with the parents, the young are growing up with so much hate, that goes for all sides. Sectarianism has no place here and should be condemned completely.
Rioting racists get away with kid gloves, rioting sectarians believe they should be treated equally.
This is what happens when you treat two communities differently. Lock all the scrotes up imho.
ELI5: Why are they rioting?
I mean what is their alleged grievance.
Typical nationalist behaviour. Savages! Terrorising the elderly and destroying their own area.
Wish the police would do their jobs instead of standing back and watching.
:s
Mindless scrotes causing havoc. Pretty despicable and need battered off the streets.
The amount of unionists all over this thread trying to score points on comment levels is ridiculous.
