Price of first class stamps rises to 95p

  1. It’s strange how private companies have to raise prices so much but nationalised companies don’t.

    It’s like the goal is a profit at all costs or something.

    Weird.

  2. It’s all to do with profit nothing else. There is no inflation. It’s just all the company’s are just sheep. Someone does it, it then gets on the news then they all follow.

  3. So can post a letter anywhere in the UK for 95pence- a bargain tbh! London to Shetland for example for 95pence.

  4. Every time the price of 1st class stamps goes up, I feel a little bit older.
    I remember people being absolutely livid over the price going up to 26p, and Good Morning Britain (or probably GMTV) talking about it like it was the end of an era or something.

  5. * France: £1.07
    * Germany: 71p
    * South Africa: 28p
    * America: 44p
    * Canada: 65p
    * Australia: 57p

    Apart from *some* countries, the UK is still quite expensive with its postage costs. Everyone saying “Well it’s still a good bargain” is thinking about an individual sending a letter. A low margin business now has even less of a margin.

  6. Also worth remembering that your “old stamps” are no longer recognised in perpetuity as has always been the case – from January 31st January 2023 non-barcoded stamps (with the exception of Christmas themed ones and I believe those produced for the commemorative market) will no longer be valid.

    If you do have a stash of old stamps you’ll either need to use them before that date, or use the swap-out scheme, which will allow you to replace them for free. Details of the form you need to complete, and the address to return said form and your stamps, can be found via:

  7. The price of first and second class stamps have more than doubled since 2010, while the service has become increasingly shit!

    Collections from post boxes used to be in the afternoon, now apart from a few main ones, they’re all early morning!

    Not forgetting the massive delays and all the other shit that has been going on.

  8. The familiar lines of attack on the universal six day service from the privatized Royal Mail. They’ll just keep whining and raising prices until the government gives them permission to only deliver to cities, like the other private postal companies.

  9. It’s hard for anyone to argue Royal Mail is performing better in private hands than if it was under public ownership.

    I may be mistaken but it seems the only thing they achieved is being able to rise prices, no wonder profits were £770M last year.
