  1. I really love this for the Bundy’s. I hope a private billionaire buys the land where they illegally run their cattle and charges them an exorbitant fee. As they are “forts, ports and four square miles” sovereign citizens, I’m sure they’d be happy to pay a commerical rate.

  6. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know the name Mike Lee until this week. Everything I’ve learned about him since makes dislike him more and more. Utah, I know you’re deep red but please vote him out so I can stop learning things about Mike Lee.

  30. My property in Oregon backs up to BLM land that according to the proposal map would be for sale. This would be problematic for affordable housing. The BLM parcels are on the mountainside, and consist of steep rocky cliffs. Plus, that area is considered volcanic upland, and has no geological value either.

    Who the hell is making up these pathetic reasons for the sell off public lands? And do they really think this would be popular with the people who live near the lands to be sold? I don’t think so. Here on the east side of the Cascades most of the proposed lands to be sold are practically in the backyards (ranches) of Trump supporters. The same could be said for Utah, and Idaho.

    As far as I’m concerned, this is the political equivalent to kicking puppies and stealing candy from babies. Just pure evil, no grey area, no sophistication.

    These public lands belong to the people, and I want my children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and on and on to be able to walk beneath redwoods and sequoias, to visit waterfalls, and to gaze out over vast grasslands to the Rocky Mountains. There’s nothing else like it on the planet.

    To me, selling public lands feels like as much of a violation as if you broke into my house and started punching my family members.

  35. It’s baffling that Mike Lee could actually claim you could increase affordable housing by selling and then building on public lands. A LOT of public land is far from anything but the most tiny of towns, if that. Many are served by only by dirt roads and have no infrastructure. It would be very costly to build in those areas. Coming from Utah, of course Mike Lee knows that. So that’s not the real reason. I suspect he wants to sell them off to rich people for vacation homes or maybe plunder those lands for their resources.

    But public lands are not just used by granola eating liberal back-packers and hikers. They’re also used by people who camp, hunters, fishermen, boaters, and ORVers, many of whom voted for trump. This might be a rare area where both the left and right agree on something.

  36. We only get to sell them once, and Trump wants to be the one to do it. A massive boost for the economy, a massive amount of income flooding into the government on his watch…

    …but it’s a one-shot. And then those public lands are gone forever.
