  1. Did Iran aggress against another country? What did I miss?

  2. OK but, how exactly are you going to prevent that? Attack them? Sanction them? Nations becoming partners is not an easy thing to deter or police, in general. And maybe it shouldn’t be, despite the occasional undesirable axis.

  3. This is funny because the aggressive rules-based-order countries seems to be excluded from this statement

  4. in order to stop this from happening, some other nations need to be aggressive and partner up. So I am not sure ‘Aggressive regimes’ is the definition, maybe more dictatorship crazy regimes must not be allowed to unite and become partners

  5. China has become such an economic powerhouse that countries like Iran and Russia don’t need western trade. China will simply take their exports on wholesale and re-market it, further cementing their domination in manufacturing, logistics and resource procurement.

There is no set of set of tariffs, embargos or asset seizures that can cripple a western-opposing eastern nation with China as a nondiscriminatory trade power. And any direct consquence of China just adds to civil unrest in the west due to our reliance on cheap consumer goods from them and our populace’s tendency to panic buy, profiteer and cause civil unrest during supply shortages. It’s a catch 22.

  6. That means USA and Israel should not be partners. Go tell ’em cowboy!

  7. Look I get where Zelenskyy is coming from. Putin is a maniac and Ukraine deserves its freedom as a sovereign nation…

But let’s not pretend that Israel and the US aren’t exactly like the aggressive regimes he’s talking about …

  8. Yes! We must stop the US Israel partnership to preserve world peace.

  9. So countries that fire the first strike should be condemned ? Agreed

  10. Not in every case, but in many cases (most?), there is no good guy. And it’s impossible to wind back to a root cause. And most of the population don’t realise they’re simply absorbing propaganda. There are very few objective truths.

  11. How many American lives should we spend to fight other countries wars?

  12. Zelenksy used cognitive dissonance. It’s super effective!

  13. Its sad, that he could be talking both about US and Israel and Russia and Iran

  14. The world is complicated.

In the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Russia is the clear aggressor. But what is the “partnership” between Russian and Iran w.r.t to the war? It’s mostly weapon deliveries. This is why Putin is trying to protect Iran.

Then there’s the conflict between Iran and Israel. Here the lines are a bit more blurry, but for the moment, Israel is the clear aggressor. Here we have a partnership between the west and Israel, and what does it entail? Largely weapon deliveries (and other military assistance), of course. And that is ongoing even though Israel is on the brink of a genocide in Gaza.

So I don’t think there is any contradiction between condoning the Russian aggression on one hand and Israel’s aggression on the other hand. If you condone weapon delivers from Iran to Russia, but you are not doing the same with weapon delivers from the west to Israel, that is a huge double standard. In this particular case, Iran is not the aggressive regime. Zelensky is saying this out of Ukrainian interests, but he isn’t right.

  15. The amount of trolls / russian bots / islamofascists in the comments trying to paint Israel or the US as agressors in the Iran conflict is astounding.

What, Hezbollah, the Houthis, the hundreds of ballistic missiles that Iran launched at Israel *last year* are nothing? Israel is the aggressor here?

Not to mention the drones they sold to Russia to kill Ukranians, the militias they fund in Iraq and Syria… if these comments are not paid by IRGC then we really do live in Idiocracy.

  16. For the first time i disagree with Zelensky, Iran is not the aggressor, Israel and US is.

  17. China must be absolutely thrilled. The entire world is at each others throats and they are just silently growing. They’re playing Risk on easy mode for real

  18. The problem is that dictatorships work a lot better for stuff like this compared to democracies

In Western countries where people vote based on their current experiences and also have a high quality of life, populists who talk about not focusing on “foreign issues” and focusing on “this country only” can be elected very easily during a crisis that seems miniscule for the rest of the world, but matters a lot for the average voter. Stuff like housing issues and inflation are pretty much enough for these sorts of people to be elected, who promise all sorts of great things that never materialise, but lead to chaos instead. This is how you get people who oppose aid to Ukraine rising in places like Europe where these populists often talk about how “look at these politicians, arming Ukraine is all they do, instead of caring about YOU, their own countrymen” or people like Trump getting elected with their “America First” policy which is a terrible blow to the US’ image abroad, especially with their allies. But it’s not like non-populist, more seemingly “normal” politicians fare better – since they also have to please their voters to be electable, they cannot really seem like they commit too much to unpopular positions, like Idk… funding the military too much, or caring too much about foreign policies, as it would immediately lead to people asking “why don’t you do something that improves our life?”. This is also something you sort of see now, especially in Europe. And of course, there is also the public opinion, where opinions of politicians don’t really align with locals on foreign stuff (for example, the Israel conflict). Locals can pretty much afford in democracies to care about things like this and voice their concerns, leading to even more unpopularity for people who promote a Western alliance. Of course, Russia and Iran exploit this, and send even more propaganda to Westerners to erode their trust further in Western support, and profit from the chaos that ensues.

For sictatorships, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if half of your country lives in slums, or starving, they will do whatever they want. It doesn’t matter if the population is pro-Western, or hates the proxies you fund – if you voice your concerns, and want something else, they will imprison you or shoot you on the street. This is all very terrible, but it’s also easy to see how these dictators wouldn’t care about stuff like “quality of life” and “welfare”, and instead, it’s very easy for them to spend as much as they want on the military, and band together in alliances, which can be very strong and last for long – after all, your leaders are basically leaders for life.

  19. Go slay (democratically elected) king. You are our light in the darkness.

  20. How come Israel and USA is allowed an alliance though /s

  21. Too late Z, America and Israel are already practically one and the same

  22. He’s just reminding people that Iran and Russia are close allies. Trump is for attacking Iran but is buddies with Putin. It’s a useful contradiction to highlight.

  23. Iran provides weapons and schematics that are directly used to bomb civilians in Ukraine. Surely people concerned about Palestine understand
