TULSA, Okla. — Two Tulsa Tech nursing students will head to Washington D.C. for an exclusive neuro science internship.
Christiana Ward and Ava Pruett are in Tulsa Techs Nursing Transitions program. In July they will start the Georgetown University Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship.
“it seemed like a good opportunity and it will boost your college a lot,” said Christiana Ward.
Ava and Christiana found this internship through an event at Tulsa Tech. They decided to apply but had no idea they would get in.
“I’ve also always had a history with neuro stuff that interested me a lot,” said Ava Pruett.
They will work with a renowned neuroscientist and do research on brain studies.
“We’re gonna conduct a research paper and whoever has the best paper… its gonna be in teams.. They’re gonna go on to get theirs published,” said Christiana.
Ava and Christiana graduated high school in the spring but are doing Tulsa Tech’s bridge program so they can get their LPN’s.
“Most of our students are looking forward to going on to bridge or to an RN whether that be an associates or bachelors RN a lot of colleges and universities in our area have LPN bridge programs so having that LPN gives them prior credit to that RN program,” said Quincee Smith.
Quincee Smith is the nursing and transitions instructor. She said this is the first year she learned about the neuroscience internship and the first time she’s had students selected for it.
“I’m so excited for them that they were chosen and will make great connections to further their education and career,” said Smith.
Ava and Christiana are going to college in the fall. They say getting their LPN’s through Tulsa Tech and completing this internship will give them a head start.
