  1. TLDR:

    * David Corenswet’s maternal grandfather, [Edward Packard](https://edwardpackard.com/), came up with the idea for — and wrote several of — the [*Choose Your Own Adventure*](https://www.cyoa.com/) books, which allow readers to make decisions about what happens by jumping to a different part of the story.
    * Corenswet tells PEOPLE his grandfather, 94, developed the concept after “telling bedtime stories to my mom and my aunt and my uncle. As he described it, he ran out of ideas, and so he just started asking them to come up with the next idea.”
    * Indeed, in a 1981 [*New York Times*](https://www.nytimes.com/1981/08/25/books/choose-your-own-adventure-and-make-your-own-ending.html) article, Packard, a former lawyer who commuted to New York City from Connecticut, recalled the specific night in 1969 that spurred the idea. “I asked my girls what Pete, my mythical hero, should do next in the story,” he said, adding that his kids each chose something different. “On the train the next day, I thought, ‘What would happen if you wrote both endings?'”

  2. strangely one of those books piqued my interest in bdsm in a strange way

  3. Superman’s grandpa killed me many times as a child. Loved those books.

  4. David is really really good at talking.

I know that seems like such a simple thing but that interview was a really nice read. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who’s really thankful for where he is.

I hope he succeeds in the role!

  5. I’ve been looking for a specific one of those for decades.

  6. “I actually think there’s more to the idea of making choices not solely based on the outcome you think they will bring, but based on the principles with which you navigate life”

“To the point where you can feel like, even if this choice brings me an outcome I didn’t want, I could still look back on it and say that I made the right choice,” he says. “And then whatever the outcome, at least you can live with yourself; you can feel like you did your best.”

“I think that’s a lot of Superman, as well. Superman is less worried about the outcomes of his actions than he is about making sure that he does what he knows is right in the moment,”

Superman dropping some full-on Superman wisdom for us all.

  7. The UFO one was so good. It even had a secret ending that you had to “cheat” to find.

  8. The video that accompanied the article is so good. The new Superman is so wholesome and also Juilliard trained like Christopher Reeves. I can’t wait for this film.

  9. Favorite Choose Your Own Adventure book: “Who Killed Harlowe Thrombey”

  10. ooooh these books would really have me thinking several steps ahead and i would still go back pages to figure out how to “win” the game and honestly it was just really fun!

and i totally remember placing a book mark at the scene question and then going back to choose another. lmaoooo!!!!

  11. Why does this feel like the most wholesome thing I’ve heard in weeks? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

  12. That’s cool. I loved those books! Great for last minute book reports too.

  13. Growing up those were the greatest pieces of literature that were ever created.

  14. I’m tired of nepotism in Hollywood /s

Edit: added /s because looking through the rest of the comments on this thread and woah people are actually upset about nepotism here and I was just trying to make a goof

  15. My school’s library had a whole bunch of them when I was in the Brazilian equivalent to middle school and they helped develop my passion for reading! I wish I could find some of them to see if they still hold up!
