After a preliminary inspection it seems to be genuine and about 3500 years old. It certainly looks like one of the best preserved swords from that era that I’ve ever seen.
The police received a tip that the 61 year old man from Corbasca, Bacău county, had a historical artefact in his home. After searching his home they found this sword and the man received criminal charges for the theft of national cultural heritage items. The sword was sent to experts to assess its age and provenance.
It’s illegal in Romania to keep historical artefacts that you find (by metal detecting, for example) and the items must be reported immediately to the authorities (or local museums). Finders of such artefacts can, if they choose so, receive 30% of the items’ value – or more, if the item is of particular value.
Might be the origin of Elder Scrolls Dwarven design 🤔
A man casually living with a 3500-year-old sword preserved in one of the best conditions I’ve ever seen. That, and the story of the Thracian Golden Helmet from around the 5th century BC, which and had been used to feed chickens for years before anyone realized it was ancient gold, makes me wonder how many historical artifacts are casually tossed around in barns or sheds all over the world.
He used the dacian tunnels under the Carpatian mountains to time travel to the Bronze Age and snatched it 🙂
isnt this a gladius? It looks kinda short, like a side arm
That is nothing. A bronze greek helmeth, 1500 years old, was used as a shovel, or to dig, by a man also in some moldavian village.
Another one had a corintian helmeth valued at 200k euro, since V th century BC, was kept in a addic for years. Also in some moldavian village.
Did people back then have smaller hand or something? Whenever I go to a museum all the bronze age and iron age swords have ridiculously small handle for max 3 of my fingers. There is no way they were that small. I know that unlike the medieval ones they were mostly just ceremonial, but how did they actually hold it?
The Spear of Destiny!!
Finders keepers losers weepers.
someone didn’t like the old man to be happy with his glorious bottle opener and snitched on him. (probably his wife ^^)
Fascinating how similar it looks to bronze age swords found all the way across Europe in Scandinavia. Ancient cultures were way more connected than we tend to imagine.
It should pretty go well with a mask, a golden one, i think.
Maybe don’t lend it out to a Dutch museum
Let them loan it to the Dutch.
Wait till a group of kids piss off a random old dude from Cotu Vai, Romania and the guy comes out of his house weilding Excalibur.
Vând sabie din epoca bronzului sau dau la schimb cu coif dacic.
holy flying cow! 3500 years old!!
Dragonborn, you found elvish set?
Looks like right out of Skyrim.
Hide it from the Dutch please.
Holy power of Grey Skull!
Just 30% of the value? and only if “they choose to”? gosh, how are they expecting to keep this kind of artifacts safe..
Sword do be from skyrim no less
