Hi everyone! I’m planning to buy our first tent for my family of four, including kids. We’d mainly use it in southern Norway during sunny weather. Does anyone have any experience or opinions about the Easy Camp Skarvan 6 tent?
I’ve seen it at OBS for a pretty good price.

These types of tents works fine in good weather, but not very solid in bad weather. Having a tarp that you can tie above the tent if the weather suddenly changes/you get a lot of rain, is a simple solution.
It’s also very heavy (*21kg), so not something I would bring on a hike.

Have a similar one. It is good for multiday camping at a camping place. With this type of model, you can keep your sleeping compartment clean, and keep your bags and stuff in the first compartment. Due to the good roof height, you can stand up and change your clothes. Use it as a living room if the weather gets bad. I never camped on a rainy day, so I canmot comment on the waterproof capablity.
It looks a lot like the Outwell tent we had. That did surprisingly well in hard wind.
These types of tents do generally have very light weight fabric. Under normal circumstances strong enough, but often not very good with sunlight.
So in the summer in Norway it can be very challenging to get kids to sleep as it hardly gets dark insight. We ended up sewing extra dark fabric in the innertent to make it dark enough
We have the Easy Camp Palmdale 600 (2018 model?) which I think is a very similar tent. (I think Skarvan is just a new name with small differences. Skarvan is a bit wider but shorter).
They are great “glamping” tents. Something you bring to camping sites and places you can drive to. It weigh over 20kg so get something else if you are planning on camping far from the car.
The living area is huge so you have plenty of space if you need to stay indoor for whatever reason.
We have a kitchen bench between the front and side door. A [120×70 table](https://www.clasohlson.com/no/Campingbord-i-aluminium,-120-x-70-cm,-sammenleggbart/p/31-2321) and 5 chairs of various types. Plenty of space.
It can handle alot of bad weather but the roof of our Palmdale doesnt block out light very well (summer nights are not very dark) so we bring a tarp to put over the sleeping area.
When we put up the tent we only use the 3 ropes on the front and rear of the tent. Its plenty stable with only those. The side ropes we only use if we expect very bad weather.
I am pretty sure Easy Camp is just a cheap version of Outwell. I think both companies are located in the same building.
Edit: If you want to keep the tent clean underneath (can look nasty after several days on the same spot) I recommend getting a footprint/ground sheet. We also bought a form fitted carpet for the living area from Easy Camp. Makes it a bit nicer tlto walk on.
My thoughts on the matter: Unless the kids are very young, get two tents – One 2/3-person for you and the wife, one 2-person for the kids. You and the wife, and perhaps the youngest, can stay in one and have space for most of the gear there, perhaps with an extra tarp to have a covered outdoor area, and the kid(s) can stay in their own tent.
Being cooped up, wet, with blisters, mosquito bites, sunburns and maybe a fever or a runny nose in a damp tent while it’s raining outside is a great way to put strain on relationships.
Besides, the tent is, as mentioned elsewhere in the thread, very heavy. If you get quality tents like ones from Barents Outdoor or Helsport (tippest toppest gucci tier tents), they’ll be lighter, to the point where the kids can carry their own tent instead of you being a pack mule. I’m no gram chaser, but 21 kilos is HEAVY, and not a weight I would want to be carrying for long. I’m aware it sounds very snooty, but it’s better to buy once and cry once.
Of course, you don’t need to shoot for the stars with your first tents, in case you decide the camping life isn’t for you. I’ve been using my MSR Elixir 2 tent for a good many years, and it’s only recently I’ve begun considering upgrading to something lighter and fancier, like a Durston X-Mid or similar.
